Vs. King Ball
The Capture Light Ball and the King Ball both guarantee capture, but the King Ball additionally guarantees the Amazing Talent trait. For rare spirits where trait quality matters (main PvP team, leader transformations), the King Ball is worth the higher Roco Shell cost. For spirits where the talent is not critical (dex completion, recall material, casual cultivation), the Capture Light Ball is the more efficient choice.
When to Use
Dex completion runs: High-level wild spirits you only need one copy of for the Pokedex.
Recall-material farming: Shiny and Pollution Bloodline spirits slated for recall rather than team use.
One-and-done captures: Hidden perfect-egg dungeons where a guaranteed catch matters more than traits.
Nightmare Shackles post-break captures: After breaking a Nightmare Shield on a shiny, a Capture Light Ball guarantees you walk away with the spirit even without a King Ball in inventory.
Post-Season
Capture Light Balls purchased during Season 1 remain usable after the season ends. The vendor listing in the Box Research Laboratory closes at the 1.01 season swap, but existing inventory does not expire.
