Breeding is a core gameplay system in Roco Kingdom: World that allows players to produce new Spirits through the egg system. By pairing two compatible Spirits together, players can hatch offspring with inherited stats, natures, and special traits. Breeding is tightly integrated into the Spirit Travel (精灵旅行) system, which serves as the primary framework for managing the breeding process from pairing through hatching.
Before players can begin breeding, they must first complete Chapter 3 of the main story to unlock the Home System. The Home provides the necessary facilities for pairing Spirits, incubating eggs, and managing offspring. Without access to the Home System, the breeding menu and related functions remain locked.
Several conditions must be met before two Spirits can produce an egg:
Same Egg Group (蛋组): Both Spirits must belong to the same Egg Group. There are 15 Egg Groups in total, and each Spirit species is assigned to one or more groups. Spirits that share at least one Egg Group in common are considered compatible for breeding.
Opposite Genders: The two Spirits must be of opposite genders. Male and female Spirits of compatible Egg Groups will produce an egg. Genderless Spirits cannot breed through the standard system.
Home System Unlocked: Players must have completed Chapter 3 of the main story to gain access to the Home System, which houses the breeding and incubation facilities.
There are 15 Egg Groups that categorize all breedable Spirits. Each Egg Group contains Spirits that share biological or thematic similarities. Some Spirits belong to multiple Egg Groups, which increases their compatibility with a wider range of partners. Legendary and mythical Spirits typically belong to the "Undiscovered" Egg Group and cannot breed.
Once two compatible Spirits are placed together in the breeding facility within the Home System, they will eventually produce an egg. The species of the offspring is always determined by the mother. If the mother is a Flame Fox, the egg will hatch into a Flame Fox regardless of the father's species. The father's primary contribution is passing down bloodline traits, which can influence the offspring's potential and hidden characteristics.
After an egg is produced, it must be incubated before it hatches. Hatching time varies by species and ranges from as short as 0.5 hours to as long as 20 hours. Eggs do not hatch passively based on real-world time alone. Instead, hatching progress is driven by in-game movement distance. Walking, running, and flying across the open world all accumulate hatching progress, with faster travel methods covering more ground and therefore hatching eggs more quickly. This mechanic is similar in concept to egg hatching in Pokemon, where physical steps translate into incubation progress.
Players can incubate up to 3 eggs simultaneously. This means trainers who are active explorers can work toward hatching multiple offspring during a single play session. Riding a mount Spirit across the map is one of the most efficient ways to accumulate hatching progress quickly, as flying and sprinting cover more ground per unit of time than walking.
Players can retrieve an egg from the incubator at any time if they need the slot for a different egg. However, removing an egg resets its hatching progress entirely. Any movement distance accumulated toward that egg is lost, and the egg starts from zero if placed back in the incubator later. Because of this, think carefully before pulling an egg out mid-hatch, especially for species with long incubation times.
Not all eggs are equal. Roco Kingdom: World features five distinct egg types beyond the standard breeding egg, each with its own properties, methods of acquisition, and guaranteed qualities. Understanding these egg types is essential for any serious breeder looking to produce top-tier Spirits.
Egg Type | Chinese Name | Source | Guaranteed Properties |
|---|---|---|---|
Perfect Egg | 了不起资质蛋 | Special breeding conditions or rare drop | Guaranteed "remarkable talent" (了不起资质) stat classification on the hatched Spirit. This is the highest standard talent tier obtainable through regular breeding. |
Story Egg | 剧情蛋 | Currently only obtainable from NPC Iris during the Unicorn Storyline | Guaranteed remarkable talent stats plus a special ability unique to the hatched Spirit. The Story Egg unicorn also comes with the Co-ride trait, allowing it to serve as a mount. |
Custom Shiny Egg | 自选异色蛋 | Unlocked after obtaining 10 individuals of the same species | Allows the player to self-select the specific shiny pattern and color of the hatched Spirit. Provides full control over the visual appearance of the shiny variant. |
Shiny Egg | 异色蛋 | Breeding with shiny parent Spirits, rare drop, or special events | Guaranteed shiny individual. Using a King Ball during hatching further guarantees remarkable talent classification on the hatched Spirit. |
Alternate Color Egg | 炫彩蛋 | Breeding with alternate color parent Spirits or special events | Guaranteed alternate color individual. The hatched Spirit will have a unique color palette distinct from both the standard and shiny variants. |
Story Eggs are particularly noteworthy because they are the only egg type that guarantees both remarkable talent stats and a special ability. Currently, Iris is the only NPC who provides Story Eggs, making them extremely rare and valuable. The unicorn hatched from Iris's Story Egg serves as both a powerful companion Spirit and a rideable mount.
Custom Shiny Eggs reward dedicated collectors. Once a player has obtained 10 individuals of the same species (through catching, breeding, or trading), the Custom Shiny Egg option unlocks for that species. This allows precise control over the shiny appearance rather than leaving it to random chance.
The breeding system includes specific inheritance rules for shiny and alternate color traits that influence what type of egg is produced.
Parent trait boost: If either parent possesses a shiny or alternate color variant, the offspring has an increased chance of hatching from a Shiny Egg or Alternate Color Egg respectively. Pairing two special-variant parents stacks this bonus further.
Base chance without special parents: Even when neither parent is shiny or has an alternate color, there is still a small baseline chance that the resulting egg will be a Shiny Egg or Alternate Color Egg. The exact probability is low, but dedicated breeders who produce many eggs will occasionally see special variants appear.
King Ball guarantee: Using a King Ball during the hatching process of a Shiny Egg guarantees that the hatched Spirit will have remarkable talent classification. This is the most reliable method for producing a shiny Spirit with top-tier stats, though King Balls are rare and expensive. Trainers aiming for competitive-grade shiny Spirits should save their King Balls specifically for Shiny Eggs produced by high-IV parents.
For players focused on collecting shiny variants, the optimal strategy is to breed two shiny parents of the same species to maximize the Shiny Egg probability, then use a King Ball on the resulting Shiny Egg to lock in remarkable talent. This approach is resource-intensive but produces the best possible outcome.
When an egg hatches, the offspring inherits certain attributes from its parents. Inheritance is probabilistic rather than guaranteed, meaning each stat and trait has a chance of being passed down.
Nature: The offspring has a chance to inherit the nature of either parent. Natures affect stat growth rates, so breeding for a desirable nature is a common strategy among competitive players.
Individual Values (IVs): Each Spirit has hidden individual values that determine its baseline stat potential. Parents can pass down their IVs to offspring with a certain probability. Higher IV parents tend to produce stronger children.
Talent Grade: Talent grades range from common tiers up to "remarkable." The parents' talent grades influence the offspring's talent, with higher-grade parents increasing the odds of a high-grade offspring.
Using a Royal Ball during the hatching process guarantees that the offspring will have the maximum talent grade. This is the most reliable method for producing top-tier Spirits, though Royal Balls are rare and valuable items. Trainers aiming for competitive-grade Spirits often save their Royal Balls for eggs produced by parents with strong IVs and desirable natures, maximizing the value of each Royal Ball used.
Experienced trainers approach breeding with specific goals in mind. The most common strategies include:
Nature Hunting: Repeatedly breed Spirits until offspring with the optimal nature for a given role (physical attacker, special attacker, tank, etc.) is produced.
IV Optimization: Pair parents with complementary high IVs to gradually produce offspring with strong stats across the board. Over multiple generations, IVs can be refined toward near-perfect values.
Shiny Chaining: Use shiny or alternate color parents to boost the probability of hatching special variant offspring. Combining two special-variant parents yields the highest chances.
Egg Move Passing: Certain Spirits can learn moves through breeding that they cannot learn through normal leveling. By choosing the right father, trainers can pass exclusive moves to the offspring's move pool.
King Ball Shiny Farming: Breed two shiny parents to maximize Shiny Egg probability, then use a King Ball on the resulting Shiny Egg to guarantee remarkable talent. This is the most resource-intensive but highest-yield strategy for competitive shiny Spirits.
Always check Egg Group compatibility before committing to a breeding pair. The in-game Spirit detail screen displays each Spirit's Egg Group assignments.
Ride a flying mount Spirit while incubating eggs. Flying covers the most distance in the least time, accelerating hatching progress significantly.
Save Royal Balls for eggs from high-IV, desirable-nature parents. Using a Royal Ball on a suboptimal egg wastes a rare resource.
If you need a specific species but only have the father, find a mother of that species in the wild first. The mother always determines offspring species.
Visit friends' worlds to catch starter Spirits you did not choose at the beginning. These can expand your breeding options with new Egg Group coverage.
Do not retrieve eggs from the incubator unless absolutely necessary. Removing an egg resets all hatching progress, which can waste hours of movement.
When targeting shiny variants, prioritize breeding two shiny parents together. The increased Shiny Egg probability is worth the effort of obtaining a second shiny of the same species.
Collect 10 of any species you want a custom shiny for. The Custom Shiny Egg lets you pick the exact pattern and color, saving you from grinding random shiny rolls.
