Washbear Studio is a small independent game studio that develops and publishes Railborn. The studio is a two-person team and is an Epic Games MegaGrants recipient.
History
Washbear Studio was founded by Chris McQuinn and Mayuran Thurairatnam. Both developers previously worked at Drinkbox Studios, where they were part of the team behind games including Guacamelee!, Mutant Blobs Attack, and Severed.
Washbear Studio's first game was Parkasaurus, a dinosaur park management simulation game released on Steam. Parkasaurus received a Sea Monsters DLC following the base game's release.
Railborn
After the success of Parkasaurus, Washbear Studio began development on Railborn, a first-person survival game centered on train construction and navigation of a dying alien world. Railborn was announced at the PC Gaming Show on June 8, 2025.
Recognition
The studio received the National Bank Special Prize during the 2019 Ubisoft Indie Series in Ontario.
Community and Communication
Washbear Studio maintains active community channels including Discord, Steam forums, and social media. For Railborn's development, the team has committed to sharing a public Trello roadmap, conducting player beta tests, and gathering regular community feedback throughout the Early Access period.
