Added the Map Towers naming, base locations as revealed content, and the off-train mini-map
11Information towers are structures scattered across the world of Railborn that reward players with map information when reached. Towers can be navigationally tricky to arrive at, since the world is traversed along a branching rail network rather than open ground.2233What Towers Reveal4455Reaching a tower reveals information about the surrounding area. As currently designed, a tower reveals nearby Core locations and local track layouts, filling in part of the map. The developers have said additional information could be revealed by towers, such as the locations of dungeons or cryopods, but at present they prefer not to reveal everything so that exploration keeps its sense of discovery.6677Cores8899The Core locations surfaced by towers are points of interest on the map. Collecting Nexus Cores feeds into expanding the Nexus, the train's central upgrade structure. Towers therefore help players plan routes toward the resources they need.101011+Map Towers and Atlas Bases12+13+The developers also refer to these structures as Map Towers. Alongside track layouts and Core locations, they name towers as one of the two ways to turn up an abandoned Atlas base, the other being exploring on foot. Base locations are deliberately not always obvious, so a tower can save a long search. See Atlas Bases.14+15+The Mini-Map16+17+Towers are no longer the only map aid. A mini-map now appears in the bottom right of the screen whenever the player steps off the train. The developers have been open that this cuts against their original goal of keeping exploration difficult and mysterious, and that further playtesting may show the mini-map is too powerful. For now it stays in while they gather player reaction.18+1119Notes12201321Towers are part of how players read and navigate the world, alongside the map and the different track types. The developers have stated that player feedback will shape exactly how much information towers reveal, so this behavior may change before and during Early Access. Separate bypass towers also exist in the world; rather than filling in the map, they mark the locations of track bypasses that open new routes for the train.
