Information towers are structures scattered across the world of Railborn that reward players with map information when reached. Towers can be navigationally tricky to arrive at, since the world is traversed along a branching rail network rather than open ground.
Reaching a tower reveals information about the surrounding area. As currently designed, a tower reveals nearby Core locations and local track layouts, filling in part of the map. The developers have said additional information could be revealed by towers, such as the locations of dungeons or cryopods, but at present they prefer not to reveal everything so that exploration keeps its sense of discovery.
The Core locations surfaced by towers are points of interest on the map. Collecting Nexus Cores feeds into expanding the Nexus, the train's central upgrade structure. Towers therefore help players plan routes toward the resources they need.
Towers are part of how players read and navigate the world, alongside the map and the different track types. The developers have stated that player feedback will shape exactly how much information towers reveal, so this behavior may change before and during Early Access.
