The Nexus is a central structure on the train in Railborn, described by the developers as the brain of the train. Players are expected to build a Nexus fairly early in the game, and it is one of the main ways to improve overall survival capacity.
Building up the Nexus unlocks and expands a set of train-wide abilities. The areas the Nexus expands include:
Ability | Effect |
|---|---|
Incline ability | Improves the train's ability to climb, useful in a world where tracks rise up mountains. |
Engines | More engines mean greater speed and a larger possible base size. Not all engines a player builds are equal. |
Platforms | Considered essential for expanding production and the collection of biomes. |
Bonus Oxygen | Extends how long the player can breathe, easing the toxic-air pressure covered under Survival Mechanics. |
Expanding the Nexus requires collecting Nexus Cores. Gathering these cores is part of the progression that lets players push the train further into a hostile world.
The Nexus ties together train building, power and oxygen management, and exploration. The developers have noted that the abilities tied to the Nexus may change over time, especially once player feedback arrives during Early Access.
