Corrected the post-reveal media record and fixed the creative director’s name spelling
Project Windless debuted at Sony's PlayStation State of Play on February 12, 2026. The trailer was captured on PS5 Pro and showed pre-alpha footage mixing gameplay and in-game cinematics. The footage centered on the Rekon protagonist (the Hero King) wielding twin blades against massive armies, with a snake-like Nhaga antagonist featuring prominently. Coverage described the presentation as stylized, brutal, and bloody.
The trailer demonstrated continental-scale warfare and the Mass Technology system in action, with hundreds of soldiers visible on screen. It was the first time the public saw the game running as something approaching a playable build.
Alongside the trailer, KRAFTON released the first Developer Diary on the official Project Windless channel. The video features Patrik Méthé and other core developers discussing creative vision, world design, and development philosophy. A detailed post from the development team went live on the same day, providing background on the source novels, the game's setting, and the combat design.
The diary runs a little over five minutes and is split into six chapters: an introduction, the world and lore origins, the four races of the world, a new fantasy vision, freedom-driven gameplay, and combat scale with Mass Technology.
KRAFTON kept publishing to the official Project Windless channel in the days after the showcase. Six short clips went up between February 15 and February 23, 2026, each built around one facet of the reveal: the Korean literary source, the Rekon protagonist, the rhythm of its battles, the four races of the world, Mass Technology, and a closing note on a fantasy without borders. On March 9, 2026 the channel published the Official Reveal Theme, a 2:52 music video built around the bespoke theme song written for the reveal trailer. It carries no new footage. Nothing published since has moved the release window off TBA.
The State of Play reveal was not entirely unexpected. KRAFTON had been dropping signals for years:
Date | Event |
|---|---|
September 2022 | KRAFTON released a visual concept trailer called "The Nhaga Eater" created in Unreal Engine 5 in collaboration with concept artist Iain McCaig. This was the first public hint at a game based on Lee Yeong-do's novels. |
October 2022 | Patrik Méthé joined KRAFTON Montréal as the studio's first employee. |
February 2023 | KRAFTON Montréal Studio was officially announced and established in Quebec, with Méthé as Studio Head. |
Late 2023 | Early press coverage referenced a 2026 release target, though KRAFTON did not formally commit. |
February 12, 2026 | Full game reveal at State of Play under the working title "Project Windless." |
The reveal drew significant attention. Coverage highlighted the Korean fantasy source material as unusual for a AAA action RPG, and the Mass Technology crowd battles drew comparisons to large-scale musou games at the scale and to weighty third-person action games at the combat feel. The Rekon protagonist, in particular, became an immediate talking point: a nine-foot avian warrior is not a typical AAA protagonist, and community reaction skewed enthusiastic in a way that surprised even the development team.
The Hero King in melee combat against dozens of enemies simultaneously
Twin star-forged blades used in wide arcing sweeps
A snake-like Nhaga adversary in cinematic confrontation
Long draw distances and dense open environments
Mass Technology rendering hundreds of individual soldiers reacting in real time
Specific gameplay systems beyond combat, exploration, and the Mass Technology demonstration were not shown. Performance targets (framerate, resolution) and a release date were intentionally held back for a later announcement.
