Humans are one of the four intelligent races in the world of Project Windless and The Bird That Drinks Tears. They are ambitious populations inhabiting northern cities, and many seek to restore the Arajit Empire the kingdom originally founded by the Hero King.
Culture
Humans in this world are defined by ambition and political strategy. They compete for power among themselves and seek to expand their influence relative to the other three races. Unlike the individualistic Rekon, humans build complex political structures, form alliances, and engage in diplomacy, and treachery.
Relationship with the Arajit Kingdom
The Arajit Kingdom was founded by the Hero King, a Rekon, but after his death, human subordinates inherited the throne. This happened because the Hero King's biological children (true to Rekon nature) abandoned the kingdom to pursue their personal Callings. The humans who took over ruled the Arajit Kingdom for centuries, and by the era of the novels, the memory of the Hero King's reign has become legend.
Relationship with other races
Humans have a particularly dark relationship with the Nhaga. In the novels, humans are known to hunt and eat Nhaga: a practice that makes cross-racial cooperation almost impossible. The human member of the novel's escort party is specifically described as a Nhaga hunter. Humans also maintain complex relationships with Rekon and Tokkebi, driven more by pragmatism and self-interest than mutual respect.
In the game
In Project Windless, set during the founding of the Arajit Kingdom, humans are one of the four factions in the continent-spanning war. The player (as the Rekon Hero King) interacts with human factions as potential allies and adversaries. Player decisions about alliances with human groups likely shape the political landscape that eventually becomes the Arajit Kingdom.
