Comprehensive article on the Luca resource system
Luca is the primary resource and progression metric in Petit Planet. Luca takes the form of small, candy-like orbs that represent a planet's vitality. Collecting and offering Luca to the mystical tree at the center of the player's planet triggers geographic changes, unlocks new biomes, and expands customization options.
Luca is earned through nearly every activity in the game. Farming crops, fishing, mining and crafting, and completing tasks for Neighbors all generate Luca. Building strong relationships with Neighbors produces Luca passively over time as well. Some activities yield more Luca than others, encouraging players to diversify their daily routines.
Each player's planet has a mystical tree at its core. When players offer Luca to the tree, it absorbs the energy and channels it into the planet itself. This causes visible geographic changes: new hills may rise, rivers may form, forests may spread, or entirely new biomes may appear. The tree tracks cumulative Luca offerings and unlocks transformation milestones at certain thresholds.
Luca-triggered transformations are permanent additions to the planet. Early offerings produce simple terrain changes like new grass patches or small ponds. As more Luca is invested, the changes become more dramatic: mountain ranges, beaches, snow-covered peaks, and dense forests can all appear depending on the planet's development path.
These geographic changes tie directly into planet customization. New biomes unlocked through Luca provide additional terrain types and decorative options for the player to arrange and modify.
Luca functions as the game's core progression system. Rather than leveling up a character, players level up their planet. Total Luca accumulated determines the planet's development stage, which in turn gates access to new features, areas, and Neighbor interactions.
