Overview
Planet customization is one of the central creative systems inPetit Planet. Players reshape their planet's terrain, alter its color palette, change the sky and atmosphere, and place furniture and decorations across the landscape. Customization options expand as the player accumulates moreLucaand unlocks new biomes andLucaFruits.
Terrain Shaping
Players can raise and lower terrain, create hills and valleys, add water features like ponds and rivers, and shape coastlines. Terrain tools range from broad sculpting brushes for large-scale changes to fine tools for detailed adjustments. The planet starts small and grows asLucamilestones are reached.
Bridges and Stairs
Players can buildbridges and stairsusing the exterior decorator app. These structures areplaced instantlywith no construction delays or fees. This is a notable quality-of-life feature compared to similar games where infrastructure requires waiting periods or loan payments.
LucaFruits
As theLuca Arbourgrows, it grants Luca Fruit slots. Luca Fruits are customization items that alter the planet's appearance in significant ways. For example, a "Sunset Cliffs" fruit modifies the coastline terrain, while other fruits can change grass to purple or adjust environmental colors.Neighborsalso gift Luca Fruits at high bond levels, providing additional options.
Color and Atmosphere
Customization extends beyond the ground. Players can dye grasslands different colors, change the hue of their sky, adjust lighting conditions, and select atmospheric effects like gentle snow or floating particles. Building materials and colors can be mixed and matched freely, allowing for dramatically different visual themes across different players' planets.
Interior Decoration
There isno inventory limitfor furniture and decorative items. Players can collect as many items as they want without storage constraints. Interior and exterior decoration use the same placement system, which supports rotation, scaling, and snapping to terrain.
Housing Upgrades
Housing upgrades unlock progressively through gameplay. Unlike some life simulation games,Petit Planetdoes not require loans to upgrade housing. New rooms and structural options become available as the player progresses, tying into the overall Luca-based advancement system.
Character Customization
During the beta, character customization was limited: 4 skin tones and a restricted selection of hairstyles were available. Additional appearance options are unlockable through the daily shop, with more customization features expected in future updates.
Vehicle Skins
The player's interstellar vehicle fromStarsea Voyagecan be customized with different skins. Vehicle customization usesLucadrops, a resource collected in the Star Stratum during voyages.
Planet Maker App
The Planet Maker is an in-game app that provides a top-down or orbital view of the player's planet. From this interface, players can make large-scale changes to terrain, biome placement, and decoration layouts. It acts as the primary planning tool for players who want to design cohesive, themed planets.
Themed Planets
The combination of terrain shaping, Luca Fruits, color tools, furniture placement, and atmospheric effects lets players create themed planets. Examples seen in pre-release materials include winter wonderland planets, tropical island planets, and cherry blossom forest planets. Players can visit each other's creations, and well-designed planets attract visitors.
