Overview
Cooking is one of the core life activities in Petit Planet, named alongside planting, fishing, beachcombing, mining, and crafting in the game's own description of daily planet life. Players turn crops, catches, and gathered ingredients into prepared dishes at a kitchen on their planet.
Cooking sits at the centre of the game's stamina economy. Prepared food is how players restore Strength, the pool that every tool-based activity draws down, so the kitchen is the loop that keeps farming, fishing, and mining running through a day.
Ingredients
Ingredients come from the same daily activities that consume Strength, which makes cooking the point where the rest of the loop pays off.
Source | What it provides |
|---|---|
Crops raised on the player's own farmland. Harvested produce can be cooked, sold, or gifted. | |
Fish caught in the planet's water. Fish are cooking ingredients as well as donations for the Omni-Gallery. | |
Foraging and beachcombing | Fruit shaken from trees, mushrooms picked from soil, and shellfish collected along the shoreline. |
Islets visited during a voyage yield ingredients and materials that are not native to the home planet. |
Recipes
New cooking recipes are one of the standard rewards for exploring off-planet. Islets reached during a Starsea Voyage can hand over recipes that unlock additional dishes, which ties the travel system to the kitchen rather than leaving the two loops separate. Recipes also arrive through Neighbors as friendship deepens, since a Neighbor's progression tree can grant items and recipes tied to their own speciality.
Cooking and Archiboos
Cooking is one of the activities that produces yellow Archiboos, the sprites used to develop Neighbors. Yellow Archiboos come from cooking meals, crafting items, and chopping wood, so a cooking session doubles as a way to bank development resources rather than being a pure consumable sink.
Known Issues and Planned Changes
After the Stardrift Test closed, the developers published a letter to test participants listing the parts of the build that had frustrated players. Cooking appeared twice in that list, and both items were acknowledged as things the team intends to change. These are stated development intentions rather than shipped features, so the final form is still open.
Issue raised in the test | Stated response |
|---|---|
Players had to cook too often in the early game purely to recover Strength. | The team acknowledged the frustration and said it is working on making everyday activities such as farming and cooking feel more grounded in daily life. |
It was too easy to use high-tier ingredients by accident while cooking. | Named directly as one of the frustrations under discussion for a fix. |
Tips
Cook in batches before a long gathering session. Because every tool swing costs Strength, a stocked larder is what decides how much Mining and Crafting or fishing a day allows.
Keep rare ingredients separate from everyday ones. Accidental use of high-tier ingredients was common enough in the second beta that the developers singled it out, so treat scarce items with care until the system changes.
Bank recipes from voyages. Islet recipes are one of the few ways to widen the menu early, and they cost nothing beyond the trip itself.
