Rokudo-chinnoji Temple

Initial version (2026-09-06)
Rokudo-chinnoji Temple is a real Kyoto temple that Capcom rebuilt for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, using the spelling given in the game's own official English manual. In the shipped game it functions as a hub: it holds Enma's Hall, where charms are enhanced, and the bell that carries Musashi Miyamoto to the Practice Ground.
The official English web manual documents Rokudo-chinnoji Temple twice, both times as a functional hub rather than as a story cutscene backdrop. On charm enhancement: "Enhance your charms by presenting red souls and offerings at Enma's Hall at Rokudo-chinnoji Temple. Doing so will improve their effects." On reaching the Practice Ground: "Visit Ono no Takamura's practice ground to undertake drills or fight previously defeated bosses. Ring the bell at Rokudo-chinnoji Temple or interact with a Spirit Mirror to travel to the practice ground."
Trusted press coverage of the retail build lists Rokudo-chinnoji among the real Kyoto landmarks Capcom reproduced, alongside Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasui Konpiragu Shrine and Kennin-ji Temple, down to details like the way its pillars are constructed and the layout of its grounds.
Enma's Hall is the site where Charms are enhanced. Presenting red souls and offerings there improves a charm's effects, and offerings are earned by exploring Eastern Kyoto and helping people, converting into favor that the enhancement requires. Different offerings yield different amounts of favor.
Ringing the bell at Rokudo-chinnoji Temple, or interacting with a Spirit Mirror, carries Musashi to Ono no Takamura's Practice Ground. There he can undertake drills that are added as he learns new abilities, or challenge any boss he has already defeated to a rematch with adjustable difficulty and raised boss stats. Only Hozuki can be used as an item during a rematch.
The temple's presence in the game leans on a specific piece of Japanese legend: a figure said to work at the imperial court by day and to assist Enma, the judge of the underworld, by night. That legend is why an Enma-dedicated hall sits at the same temple where Ono no Takamura is found, and why the temple works as both a charm-enhancement hub and the gateway to his Practice Ground rather than as two unrelated systems.
Rokudo-chinnoji Temple's existence, its Enma's Hall charm-enhancement function, and its bell connection to the Practice Ground are all confirmed directly by Capcom's official manual. Whether the temple serves as a base of operations beyond these two functions, and the full extent of its grounds, have not been detailed.
