Initial Musashi Miyamoto article (2026-04-22)
Musashi Miyamoto is the protagonist of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. He is a legendary swordsman reimagined in the game's dark-fantasy version of Edo-era Kyoto, and his character model is explicitly based on the Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune.
Capcom's producer team has said Musashi was picked specifically because he is a name most players know, whether from Japanese history, novels, or other media. That recognisability is meant to give new players an easy entry point into a series that has been on hiatus for years.
Musashi comes into possession of the Oni Gauntlet early in the story, at the moment he is near death from a Genma ambush. The gauntlet is described as sentient and consumes the souls of the demons he kills.
Musashi's combat style centres on the sword, with movement and timing reflecting his historical reputation as a duellist. The game rewards aggression paired with sharp reactive play rather than pure spam, which fits the way the design team has talked about his character.
