Retail-build coverage of the shipped game reports that Musashi is killed by the Genma shortly after arriving in Kyoto, and that as he falls toward hell he meets a man in white robes, who fits him with the Oni Gauntlet and returns him to life. That account matches Capcom's own description of the character as the one who grants Oni Gauntlets, though it is reported detail from the shipped build rather than wording drawn from Capcom's own character page.
Beyond that founding act, Capcom states plainly that the Man in White's goals, and whether he can be trusted, remain completely unknown. He is written to reappear at points across the story rather than disappear after the opening.
Identity in the Shipped Game
Community documentation of the shipped game identifies the Man in White as Minamoto no Yoshitsune, revealed later in the story and fought as the final boss atop Shanaoh Castle. The in-game trophy for that fight, Truly, Thank You, carries the description Defeat Minamoto no Yoshitsune in the text reproduced by player guides, and Steam's own achievement list shows the same trophy name with its description hidden.
Capcom's own character page does not name him, and its marketing and interviews had not done so as of September 27, 2026. The identification therefore rests on in-game text documented by players rather than on Capcom's promotional material. The final fight itself is covered on the Bosses page.

The Man in White is voiced by Shogo Miyakita. Capcom gave him the ninth and final episode of the official Genma and cast video series on 3 September 2026, closing out a run that had already profiled the rest of the main cast and several Formidable Foes across the preceding weeks.
A Separate Listing From Ono no Takamura
Capcom's own character page lists the Man in White and Ono No Takamura as separate entries, despite both being voiced by Shogo Miyakita. The two are documented independently, and nothing in Capcom's official material establishes any relationship between them.
