Expanded Izumo no Okuni with 'departed the stage' plot framing, relationship to Ono no Takamura, voice actors
Izumo No Okuni is one of the confirmed allied characters in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. In real-world history she is credited with founding kabuki theatre in the early 17th century, and the game folds that identity directly into her role as a supporter of Musashi Miyamoto.
The real Izumo no Okuni was a shrine maiden turned performer whose dance style, performed in Kyoto's dry riverbeds in the early 1600s, is the foundational moment of kabuki theatre as it still exists today. Putting her in the early-Edo Kyoto of the game is historically plausible, which gives Capcom the same kind of recognisable-but-legitimate footing it has with the rest of the cast.
Capcom describes Izumo no Okuni as a young kabuki dancer who has departed the stage in search of a way to defeat the Genma. In the Tokyo Game Show 2025 story trailer, she is shown to have approached Ono No Takamura earlier in her search, seeking the power to push back against the demonic invasion. Her kabuki heritage is reflected in her visual design and in how she carries herself in trailers.
Capcom's published framing describes her as providing eccentricity to the team, setting her apart from the raw power of Lady Oni and the magic brought by Ono No Takamura.
