Overview
The Scarborough Fair is the gacha system in Neverness to Everness. Unlike traditional gacha systems that use a simple pull mechanic, Scarborough Fair uses a board-game format resembling Monopoly. Players roll dice to move a token (called a Chuppa) around a looped tile-based board with branching side paths. Each tile the token lands on provides a different reward, ranging from guaranteed characters to bonus pulls and upgrade materials.
The system is widely regarded as one of the most player-friendly gacha implementations in the genre. There is no 50/50 mechanic on the limited banner, S-Class Arcs are acquired through gameplay rather than gacha, and the board-game format adds a layer of engagement and strategy that traditional pull systems lack.
How It Works
Each pull in Scarborough Fair corresponds to rolling a standard six-sided die and moving your Chuppa that many tiles forward on the board. The board is arranged as a main loop with two smaller side loops extending from the left and right sides. Landing on an arrow tile allows entry into these side branches, which contain different reward distributions.
Special convergence points called the Rainbow Bridge unlock a diverging path: one path leads to a guaranteed S-Class card, while the other provides 5 bonus dice. Strategic timing of when to enter side loops and which Rainbow Bridge path to take adds meaningful decision-making to the gacha experience.
Currencies
NTE uses six distinct gacha-related currencies. See Currencies for full details.
Currency | Purpose |
|---|---|
Solid Dice | Premium currency used for pulls on the limited character banner. One Solid Die equals one pull. |
Free currency used for pulls on the standard (permanent) banner. Awarded through pre-registration, achievements, and gameplay. | |
Annulith | Premium currency obtainable through gameplay that can be used to purchase any pull type. A versatile resource. |
Tri-Key | Exchanged for S-Class Arcs at the Arc Shop. 25 Tri-Keys are required per Arc. Arcs are obtained through gameplay, not gacha. |
Warp Piece | Earned from gacha duplicate drops and certain board tiles. Can be used to purchase additional pulls or standard characters. |
Lost Piece | Earned from gacha board tiles. Used to buy upgrade items and monthly pull bundles. |
Board Tile Types
Each tile on the Scarborough Fair board offers a different reward:
Tile | Effect |
|---|---|
Journey Together | Grants the featured S-Class character directly. The ultimate prize tile. On limited banners, always awards the featured character. |
Apprentice Chest | The most common tile. Contains a 0.2% chance of an S-Class character; mostly yields B-Class Arcs. |
Hero Chest | 3% S-Class rate. Otherwise yields a B-Class Arc plus 2 Warp Pieces. |
A-Class Card | Guarantees the featured A-Class character on the current banner. |
Roll Again | Returns the listed number of pulls immediately, allowing additional rolls at no extra cost. |
Miracle Box | Awards a random A-Class Arc (weapon). |
Warp Chess Box | Provides a specified number of Warp Pieces. |
Lost Chess Box | Provides a specified number of Lost Pieces. |
Slumberland | Spawns a guardian 9 tiles ahead. Catching it within 3 turns awards 30 Warp Pieces. |
Pity System
NTE's pity system ensures players eventually receive an S-Class character:
Tier | Pulls | Effect |
|---|---|---|
A-Class Guarantee | Every 10 | Guaranteed A-Class character or Arc. |
Normal Board | 1-69 | Each pull has a base 1% chance to land on an S-Class character tile. |
Soft Pity | 70+ | Board layout changes to increase Journey Together tiles. S-Class chance jumps to approximately 19.5% per pull. |
Hard Pity | 90 | Game skips the roll and automatically awards the featured S-Class character. |
No 50/50 System
When a player obtains an S-Class character on a limited banner, it is always guaranteed to be the featured banner character. There is no 50/50 mechanic where the player risks receiving a non-featured character instead. This is one of the most celebrated aspects of NTE's gacha design, and it means pity is never wasted on an unwanted character. See No 50/50 System for a full comparison with other gacha games.
No Weapon Banner
S-Class Arcs (weapons) are not distributed through the gacha system. Instead, S-Class and most A-Class Arcs are obtained through gameplay modes or purchased with Tri-Keys from the Arc Shop. Only a few trace A-Class Arcs appear on the gacha board. This removes the frustration common in other gacha games where players must split resources between character and weapon banners.
Banner Types
Banner | Currency | Pool |
|---|---|---|
Limited Banner | Solid Dice | Featured S-Class character guaranteed on pity. Rotates periodically with new characters. |
Standard Banner | Fabricated Dice | Permanent pool of S-Class characters including Daffodil, Lacrimosa, Baicang, Hathor, and Jiuyuan. S-Rank Selector after 50 pulls. 20% discount on first 10. |
Tips
Save Solid Dice for limited banners with characters you want, since the featured character is guaranteed.
Use Fabricated Dice freely on the standard banner for early-game roster building.
The Slumberland tile is a bonus opportunity; try to catch the guardian within 3 turns for 30 free Warp Pieces.
Pity carries over between banners of the same type, so no pulls are ever wasted.
The Rainbow Bridge path choice is key: go for the guaranteed S-Class if you are close to pity, or take the bonus dice if you want more rolls.
See the Reroll Guide for advice on how to maximize your starting pulls.
