Comprehensive exploration guide with all movement options, vehicles, and traversal mechanics
Exploration is a core pillar of Neverness to Everness. The city of Hethereau is a seamless open world with no loading screens, and players have access to a wide variety of movement options to traverse its streets, rooftops, waterways, and skies. From running and climbing to driving supercars and flying drones, the traversal system is designed to make every corner of Hethereau accessible and enjoyable to reach.
The fundamental movement options available to all players include running, sprinting, jumping, climbing, wall-running, swimming, and gliding. These actions cover most traversal needs and are available from the start of the game without any unlocks or equipment requirements.
Movement | Stamina Cost | Description |
|---|---|---|
Run | None | Standard movement speed; available at all times |
Sprint | None | Faster movement with no stamina cost; hold the sprint input to maintain |
Jump | Minimal | Single jump; can chain into wall-run or climb |
Climb | Continuous drain | Scale vertical surfaces; stamina drains while climbing |
Wall-Run | Continuous drain | Run along vertical surfaces horizontally; useful for navigating building sides |
Swim | Continuous drain | Traverse bodies of water; stamina drains while swimming |
Glide | Slow drain | Descend gradually from height; covers large horizontal distances |
Most movement actions except sprinting draw from a regenerating stamina bar. Climbing, wall-running, swimming, and gliding all consume stamina at varying rates. The stamina bar regenerates automatically when the player is standing on solid ground and not performing stamina-consuming actions. Sprinting is a notable exception: it costs no stamina, allowing unlimited ground-level travel speed.
Neverness to Everness features a fleet of drivable vehicles that provide fast ground transportation across Hethereau's streets and highways. Vehicles are a key part of the game's urban identity, and driving offers a different perspective on the city compared to on-foot exploration. A first-person camera option is available while driving, increasing immersion.
Vehicle Type | Description |
|---|---|
Cars | Standard automobiles for city driving; balanced speed and handling |
Muscle Cars | High-power vehicles with aggressive acceleration; louder and more dramatic |
Supercars | Top-tier speed machines; fastest straight-line speed but require skilled handling |
Motorcycles | Agile two-wheelers; easier to navigate through tight spaces and traffic |
Vehicle handling received feedback during beta testing. Motorcycles were generally praised for responsive controls, while cars were criticized for feeling somewhat stiff. The development team addressed these concerns ahead of launch, refining the driving physics and camera behavior.
Hethereau features a functioning public transit system that players can use for fast travel and immersive city exploration. Buses follow set routes through the city's major districts, and players can board them to ride as passengers. A train system connects distant parts of the map, allowing rapid travel between neighborhoods without consuming any personal resources. Public transit is free to use and provides a relaxing alternative to driving or running.
Certain characters have Esper abilities that enhance traversal beyond the standard movement set. The most notable example is Nanally's Anti-Gravity ability, which grants vertical flight and the ability to run on any surface, including ceilings and walls, for a limited duration. Other characters may provide movement speed boosts, extended glide distances, or unique traversal animations.
Esper-powered traversal abilities are typically tied to specific character skills or passives, meaning team composition can affect exploration efficiency. Having a movement-oriented character in the party makes reaching elevated or remote locations significantly easier.
Players have access to a personal drone that provides unrestricted aerial exploration. The drone can fly to any height and location within the game world, offering a bird's-eye view of Hethereau. While piloting the drone, players can take photographs using the game's photo mode, making it a powerful tool for both scouting and creative photography. The drone operates independently of the player character's position and has no stamina limitations.
Neverness to Everness offers a first-person camera option for both walking and driving. In first-person mode, players can observe Hethereau's environmental details up close, read storefront signs, examine architectural features, and experience driving from the cockpit perspective. This mode enhances immersion and is particularly popular for photo opportunities and leisurely city strolls.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5's world partition streaming technology, Hethereau loads entirely without visible loading screens. Whether the player is sprinting through alleyways, driving at high speed on a highway, or gliding from a skyscraper to street level, the world streams in seamlessly. This technical achievement extends across all supported platforms, including mobile devices, though visual detail scales with hardware capability.
