Overview
Neverness to Everness supports cooperative gameplay with up to 4 players. The multiplayer model uses an invitation-based system where players invite friends into their world instance, similar to how co-op works in Genshin Impact. NTE is not a traditional MMO with a persistent shared world where random players are visible; instead, multiplayer is a deliberate, opt-in experience.
Hotta Studio has emphasized that multiplayer is entirely optional. The developers stated that "multiplayer features will be an optional 'spice' in your life in Hetro City, not a necessity." There is no forced social or team-based content, and all dungeons can be completed solo. Players have complete freedom to enjoy exploration and combat entirely on their own.
Supported Co-Op Activities
The following activities have been confirmed to support multiplayer or cooperative play:
Activity | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Pink Paws Heist | Co-op Dungeon | Team-based heist with equalized character stats. Infiltrate, steal resources, and extract safely. |
Anomaly Dungeon: The Bank | Co-op Dungeon | Large-scale cooperative dungeon requiring teamwork to navigate environments and defeat encounters. |
Anomaly Dungeon: The Hospital | Co-op Dungeon | Psychological horror-themed dungeon supporting multiplayer. Praised by beta testers for atmospheric design. |
Circle Bounty | Multiplayer Activity | Cooperative activity that awards Fon currency. Rewards being improved for launch. |
Riftcrystal Mining | Multiplayer Activity | Cooperative mining activity that awards Fon currency. Rewards being increased for launch. |
Racing | Competitive | Multiplayer vehicle races against friends. AI opponents also being added for when not enough players are available. |
Mahjong | Social | Online matchmaking multiplayer. AI players being added for launch to supplement online-only matchmaking. |
Open World Activities | Social | Fishing, coffee shop work, taxi driving, and other Hethereau Hobbies with friends in your world instance. |
Pink Paws Heist
The Pink Paws Heist is the flagship co-op activity in NTE. It is a team-based large-scale dungeon where players work together to infiltrate a location, steal resources, and extract safely while navigating patrolling anomaly enemies.
The key feature of Pink Paws Heist is equalized character stats. All characters used in the heist are set to fixed stats regardless of player progression, meaning players can use level-one unbuilt characters and still contribute effectively. This makes the mode accessible to everyone regardless of how far they have progressed in character leveling.
According to the Launch Roadmap, Pink Paws Heist is receiving several improvements for the official launch:
Full multiplayer support (was not fully multiplayer during early beta)
More level variety for greater replayability
Adjusted enemy and item spawn logic
Improved rewards and pacing
Shorter completion time
Instanced Content vs. Open World
NTE's multiplayer content is split between structured instanced content and casual open world co-op:
Category | Activities | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
Instanced Dungeons | Pink Paws Heist, The Bank, The Hospital | Structured cooperative content with specific objectives, enemies, and rewards. Separate from the open world. |
Open World Co-op | Racing, fishing, driving, housing visits, hobbies | Invitation-based world sharing for casual activities. Friends join your open world instance. |
Matchmaking Activities | Mahjong, Circle Bounty, Riftcrystal Mining | Use online matchmaking or invitation to find other players for specific activities. |
Cross-Play and Cross-Progression
NTE launches with full cross-platform play across all five supported platforms:
PC (Windows)
PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro)
Mac (macOS)
iOS
Android
Cross-progression is confirmed, allowing players to continue their save data across devices. However, specific details about whether cross-play is automatic or server-restricted have not been officially detailed. Hotta Studio's previous game, Tower of Fantasy, featured full cross-platform support but only allowed players to team up with friends on the same server.
Team Composition
Players manage a party of up to 4 characters in combat, swapping between them mid-fight. When playing co-op, each player brings their own team. Team synergy revolves around the Esper Cycle system, where combinations of different elements trigger powerful reactions.
Characters fill different roles within a team:
Role | Function | Examples |
|---|---|---|
DPS | Primary damage dealers who focus on dealing high damage to enemies. | Adler (Incantation DPS) |
Support | Buff allies, provide healing, or enable elemental reactions from off-field. |
Support abilities can only be used when a character is tagged into the fight by another character who connects with them via Esper links. Building teams with advantageous Esper links while maintaining strong elemental coverage is the key to effective team building.
Social Features
NTE includes several social features that complement the co-op experience:
Feature | Description |
|---|---|
Friends System | Add friends and invite them to your world instance for cooperative play. |
Housing Visits | Invite friends to tour your customized dormitory or property. |
Vehicle Sharing | Take friends for drives in your customized vehicles around Hethereau. |
Companion Interactions | Invite in-game characters as companions to walk with you, hold hands, and play rock-paper-scissors. |
Guilds | Form alliances and join guilds for cooperative missions. Detailed guild mechanics have not yet been fully documented. |
No PvP
No Player versus Player combat modes have been confirmed for NTE. The multiplayer experience is focused entirely on cooperative and social gameplay. Racing between friends is the closest competitive activity, but it does not involve direct combat between players.
Co-Op Rewards
Multiplayer activities provide their own reward structures:
Circle Bounty: Awards Fon currency. Rewards are being improved for launch after beta testers complained the amounts were too low.
Riftcrystal Mining Permits: Awards Fon currency. Also receiving reward increases for launch.
Pink Paws Heist: Resource plundering with improved rewards and pacing coming for launch.
The developers acknowledged that multiplayer reward structures were insufficient during beta testing and committed to improvements across the board.
