The Mercenary is the heavy melee fighter of Mistfall Hunter, built to stand in the thick of a brawl and trade blows. It is one of the six classes covered on the Classes page, and unlike a couple of its siblings it arrives with both of its weapon categories ready to play. You carry a Sword & Shield in one stance and a Hammer in the other, and you can switch between them mid-fight depending on whether you want to control the pace or simply hit harder.
Sword & Shield
Sword & Shield splits into two archetypes that pull in opposite directions. The Sword Build leans into offense, relying on powerful slashes and lunges. While in its Crimson Blade state, its damage climbs and its stacking slashes give the weapon strong output and good pursuit, so it is the more aggressive way to play the stance.
The Shield Build is the defensive answer. It revolves around blocking and parrying, using Perfect Parries to interrupt an enemy's onslaught and earn buffs, then following up with Shield Dashes to chase and pin down a target. It is the more patient, reactive style, rewarding good timing over raw aggression.
Hammer
The Hammer offers two paths of its own, Charged and Stun. The Charged Build keeps you mobile during the wind-up, holding onto Super Armor and damage resistance while you load the swing. Its wide attacks and interrupt effects give it a commanding presence in a crowd. The Stun Build instead lands hammer strikes to stack debuffs and trigger stun control; paired with the high-frequency hits and movement of the Hammer Spin skill, it keeps relentless pressure on whatever is in reach.
