Stealth in Marvel's Wolverine is opportunistic rather than hiding-based. Insomniac has reduced the point to one line: stealth is optional. It is closer to thinning a group before it notices you than to a sandbox built around assassinations.
Enhanced Senses marks the opportunities, picking enemies out as silhouettes and making their heartbeats audible through walls, and takedowns are available on isolated targets. Jean Grey adds an assist of her own: enemies she blinds can be taken down silently, which the trophy list tracks. See Combat.
Quiet kills pre-build the Rage and Healing Factor meter, and game director Mike Daly has pointed out that Rage banked this way does not decay the way it does in an open fight. That makes an opening stealth phase a real mechanical advantage rather than a stylistic preference: you walk into the loud part of an encounter with a meter you would otherwise have to earn under fire.
Element | Detail |
|---|---|
Detection | Accessibility Options expose a Stealth Awareness slider that adjusts how quickly enemies detect you |
Rage | Stealth kills build Rage, and that Rage does not decay |
Assists | Jean Grey can blind enemies, opening silent takedowns |
Limits | Many scenarios cannot be stealthed all the way through |
Stealth does not work against bosses at all |
One previewed section had Logan sneaking through a fake town Bolivar Trask had built for one of his experiments, destroying generators as he went and moving through claustrophobic house interiors between them. Traversal feeds the same loop: Insomniac has described Logan using his strength to climb rocks and trees and to sneak through areas, so climbing is a stealth tool as much as a movement one. See Locations.
It is not a full stealth game and the game does not pretend otherwise. There are many scenarios where it is not possible to stay unseen through an entire encounter, and boss fights are open from the first frame. See Bosses.
