Added Roselle's role in the Emperor's Second Advent raid and as a Fool's Chessboard piece
11Overview2233Roselle Gustav (罗塞尔·古斯塔夫) is a historical figure in the world of Lord of Mysteries and the most consequential transmigrator before Klein Moretti. He died over two hundred years before the events of the campaign, but his legacy permeates the world: he sparked the industrial revolution that gave Loen and Intis their gas lamps, steam engines, and modern weaponry, and his influence is woven through every major faction the player encounters. See Transmigrators.4455He is also the subject of the game's opening season, which makes him the most present dead man in the launch build.6677Season One: The Emperor's Return8899The game's first competitive season is named 大帝的归来·上, the Emperor's Return, part one. It runs on the strategy server, which the studio describes as the ultimate form of every type of player versus player play, and its subject is Roselle and the Fourth Epoch's War of the Four Emperors, reached through his own memories of that war.101011+Roselle also anchors two additions from the September 17, 2026 update. The Emperor's Second Advent (大帝重临) raid, covered under Dungeons and Raids and scheduled to open on October 2, 2026, sends twelve players against his residual will, which tests the party with maths puzzles, and then against his polluted will; near the end of the fight players help him recall good memories to resist the Red Moon's pollution. The raid is a separate thing from the season name 大帝的归来·上. He is also a piece in Fool's Chessboard, where the studio's reveal places him in an Age of Steam bond with Melissa and presents him as a strong five-cost piece.12+1113Season oneWhat has been publishedName大帝的归来·上, the Emperor's Return, part oneWindow21 August 2026 to 14 October 2026SubjectThe War of the Four Emperors, seen through Roselle's memories of itWhere it runsThe strategy server, the apex competitive layer, contested by qualifying clubsFraming authorityThe Hermit line. See Hermit PathwayRewardsCosmetic, including a permanent club war banner1214The war itself is playable as the game's largest battle mode, in which four armies (黑皇军, 血皇军, 夜皇军 and 冥皇军) contest a single central city with hundreds of players on screen at once. There are no permanent alliances in it, which is very much in keeping with the history it is drawn from.13151416One wrinkle is worth stating plainly: the War of the Four Emperors belongs to the close of the Fourth Epoch, while Roselle's own life falls in the Fifth. Official season copy routes the season through his memories of the war without spelling out how the two connect. See Fifth Epoch.15171618Historical Role17191820Roselle Gustav transmigrated into the Northern Continent in approximately 1143 of the Fifth Epoch, over two hundred years before Klein. The world he arrived in had no industrial revolution: gas lighting, locomotives, telegraphs, and mass-produced firearms were unknown. Roselle introduced or accelerated all of them. He is credited with inventing the steam engine, or its closest cultural equivalent, improving sailing-ship rigging, popularising scientific method as an institutional practice, and indirectly causing the formation of the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery as a religious movement around the new mechanical god.19212022Official material also hangs the world's air on him. The smog and industrial pollution that hazes the cities are tied directly to the wave of industry he pushed: the factories and the haze arrived together.21232224Roselle led a revolution against the monarchy of the Kingdom of Intis, overthrew it, founded a republic in its place, and later an empire on top of that. His political legacy splits along faction lines: Intis and progressive Loen circles revere him; the conservative Loen aristocracy and the older Seven Orthodox Churches view him as a destabilising figure. Official copy leans into the joke, describing him as a man who set out single-handedly to make Intis great again.23252426Roselle's Diary25272628Roselle kept a personal diary throughout his decades in the world. The diary is one of the source material's most consequential artifacts: it mixes everyday banalities such as recipes, weather and court gossip with hints toward higher-Sequence Beyonder mysteries that Roselle pieced together during his lifetime. After his death, the diary fragmented across several owners and a single intact volume eventually passed to Klein. The game references the diary in Mr. Fool visions. How its fragments are used in play, including whether they function as quest items or as Beyonder ingredients, has not been published.27292830Pathway29313032Roselle's Pathway is deliberately ambiguous in the source material, and the game follows suit: he is treated as a mythic figure whose Pathway is not a player-facing concern. References position him as having claimed multiple Sequence 0 seats over his lifetime. Specifics belong to later story content and have not been published. See Sequences.31333234In-Game Role33353436Roselle is not a living NPC in the player's present. He is encountered as history, memory, and consequence:35373638Season content: the first season is built on his memories of the War of the Four Emperors.Mr. Fool visions: cinematic flashbacks during specific main-campaign beats, often paired with Klein discovering or referencing the diary.Historical NPCs and buildings: Roselle's name appears on monuments, and side content revolves around investigating Roselle-era artifacts. See Backlund for the capital that carries most of them.Faction context: the Machinery Hivemind, the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery, and several Beyonder underground rings trace their lineage directly to his revolution and his posthumous influence.Player rituals: certain advanced rituals in the Tarot Club structure invoke Roselle by name; performing them carries an Acting reward for players on the related Pathway.37393840Why He Matters to the Player39414042Roselle is the world's framing device for the player's relationship with Klein. The source material repeatedly draws the parallel: Roselle was a transmigrator who reshaped the world, and Klein is the next one following in his footsteps. The player's original Beyonder is in turn the third figure walking that path, with their own choices echoing forward through the same mythic structure. Recognising Roselle's role is part of what separates a player who has read the source material from one meeting the world fresh; both can follow the campaign, but the echo lands harder for readers. Naming the opening season after his return is the studio saying as much out loud.
