Combat and the Undead

Corrected the threat description to the officially stated one, that the living are as dangerous as the dead, and noted the firearms visible in promotional screenshots
Violence in Last Harbor is loud, risky, and rarely the safe option. The game features tactical first-person combat against the undead that overrun the islands, but every gunshot carries a cost.

The shore is crowded with the dead, and large hordes can form quickly. Survivors going ashore from their boat must decide when to fight and when to slip past, because a single fight can spiral into a swarm. tinyBuild has described large-scale zombie hordes as a central threat.
Gunfire and open confrontation attract the undead, and they alert other survivors nearby as well. A firefight between players can pull a horde down on everyone involved, which makes reckless violence dangerous for attacker and defender alike. Meeting another crew ashore is therefore a decision rather than an automatic fight: survivors can hold fire and move on, or commit and accept the noise that follows. This tension shapes how survivors approach both scavenging and conflict with one another, as covered in Multiplayer and PvP.
The undead are the primary threat, though not the only one. tinyBuild has been explicit that the living are just as much of a threat as the dead, and that other survivors will have no regard for anyone else's survival. Promotional screenshots show survivors carrying firearms, including a shotgun and a longer rifle. Specific weapon names, enemy types, and combat abilities have not yet been revealed, so they are not listed here. The survival side of staying alive is covered in Survival and Crafting.
The clearest published signal about how graphic that violence gets comes from the game's ratings. All three markets that have classified it cite violence, the German mark singles out graphic violence, and Indonesia adds a horror descriptor on top; see Age Ratings.
