Added the launch-candidate polish posture, the first major content update window and contents, matchmaking and server-fleet work, and the current unannounced Open Beta status
11GOOD FUN CORPORATION is the Australian studio developing and self-publishing HUNGER. The studio was founded by veterans of Black Matter, the team that created the World War II multiplayer tactical shooter Hell Let Loose. The studio is led by Maximilian Rea.2233Background4455Black Matter developed Hell Let Loose as an independent studio based in Sydney, Australia, before the company was rebranded as GOOD FUN CORPORATION. HUNGER is the first project developed under the new name. The team brings experience in multiplayer game design and large-scale player-versus-player systems from their prior work.6677The studio handed the reins of Hell Let Loose to its publisher, Team17, and HUNGER is its first release in the roughly three years since. That prior game is relevant here only as studio history: none of its systems, maps or content carry over.8899Development Approach10101111GOOD FUN CORPORATION is developing HUNGER as a community-driven Early Access title, with the launch targeted for 2026. The studio has stated that the Early Access period will last approximately two years, during which new content will ship incrementally: additional weapons, new Expedition locations, expanded areas of the Chateau, new character types, and new enemy types are all planned. The game's pricing will gradually increase as content ships.12121313The studio communicates development progress through a regular series of public dev updates that detail individual systems and report on engineering milestones such as backend scaling, anti-cheat, and matchmaking. Tech Test 3, a closed technical test focused mainly on infrastructure, ran from 29 June to 8 July 2026 and stressed the studio's backend, matchmaking, and servers under real player load. With that test complete, the studio has opened Open Beta registration through the game's Steam playtest page. The Open Beta is expected to go live later in 2026, and the studio's stated goal is to move into Early Access later the same year.14141515Recent development updates report that the studio's anti-cheat solution has been integrated, that combat balancing and melee feel have had a substantial pass, and that a new-player tutorial and onboarding flow has been completed. A wide optimisation pass has also been carried out, and players can now choose between Lumen and Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI) rendering, with SSGI offered as an alternative for those seeking higher frame rates. The studio has also begun work on the first major post-launch content update.16161717After Tech Test 3 the studio has said its next major focus is balance, with a full pass across the Mastery system and every character ability and a broader review of melee combat, weapon damage, and attack timings. Several new regions, additional weapons and equipment, further Hunger enemy variants, and new gameplay features are in production and are planned to arrive as free updates after the Early Access launch. Over the first year of Early Access, Expeditions are intended to grow into the foundation for a wider endgame that adds dedicated PvP battlegrounds, PvE Trials, and large-scale PvE boss encounters. A living roadmap that tracks what the team is actively working on is planned to launch alongside Early Access.18181919The most recent development update describes one of the studio's largest rounds of refinement to date, focused on the core experience ahead of the Open Beta. Character abilities were fully rebalanced and the mastery system restructured, splitting the former Martial tree into a ranged Martial path and a new melee-focused Arms path, with early melee progression bottlenecks removed. A Parry mechanic was added and lunges were reworked. Movement was retuned, vendor profit margins were cut, and the Cauldron received a polish pass. On the technical side the studio added support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution as an additional upscaling option and integrated CACAO ambient occlusion for players using screen space global illumination, addressing the shimmering artefacts that had been reported. Hundreds of bugs and a large number of crashes have been fixed since Tech Test 3, and matchmaking reliability remains the main focus going into the Open Beta.202021+The newest update turns attention to the launch candidate itself. Work has split across two tracks: part of the team is polishing and stabilising the build going into Early Access while a growing share of the content team has moved on to what follows it. The studio has said it is deliberately holding new weapons, enemies and features out of the launch build rather than pushing them in, on the grounds that the version entering Early Access should be as polished, stable and reliable as it can be made. Recent work includes a melee damage rebalance aimed at reducing one-shot kills, continued refinement of the parry, a broad animation bug pass across weapons, characters and interactions, a vault indicator on the heads-up display, further combat log fixes, a replacement for the visual effect that plays when a character leaves an Expedition, and a new equip time for weapons moved out of a bag into an active slot. Behind the scenes the team has been hardening its server fleet and matchmaking, making the tickets that route players into Expeditions harder to lose and improving how servers are allocated ahead of release.22+23+A first major content update is planned for roughly three to four months after the Early Access release, and production on it is already under way. The studio has said it is looking at several new weapons, new types of Hunger, and a new map as the core of that update, with more to be described closer to the time. Beyond it the stated intent is many years of continued support, adding new regions, Hunger, weapons and systems over time rather than treating Early Access as the finish line.24+25+Published Early Access Plans26+27+The studio has published a quantified list of what it intends to add across the Early Access period, which it estimates at about two years. These are commitments about the whole period rather than about any single update, and none of the individual additions has been named.28+29+Planned additionStated quantityExpedition locationsTwo additionalChateau areasThree additionalLivingMore than six additionalTypes of HungerMore than eight additionalRanged weaponsAdditional, no figure givenMelee weaponsAdditional, no figure givenWeapon typesAdditional, no figure given30+Open Beta dates remain unannounced. As of early September 2026 the studio said it was lining up when it would announce them and asked players to sign up through the game's Steam page in the meantime. Its plan still is to launch into Early Access during 2026.31+2132Platforms22332334HUNGER will launch in Early Access on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The studio has also stated a goal to bring the game to current-generation consoles after the Early Access launch. Specific pricing for Early Access has not been confirmed ahead of launch, and system requirements have not yet been published. Both listings confirm English-only interface, audio, and subtitle support at launch, and the Steam listing names Easy Anti-Cheat as the game's anti-cheat solution, carrying the disclosure that it runs at kernel level.
