Cosmetics in HUNGER permanently alter the appearance of a character, their weapons, and their carried equipment. At present the game includes more than 70 distinct cosmetics, and the library is set to expand after release. Unlike most games, where cosmetics are bought directly or awarded for achievements, HUNGER ties cosmetics to what players actually do, so a character's appearance reflects their experience and accomplishments. Many of the most striking cosmetics are tied to the Prestige system.
Cosmetic Categories
Cosmetics can be applied to distinct categories such as character outfits, weapons, and bags, the last of which includes hip bags, back bags, and weapon bags. Additional item types are planned to receive cosmetic support in later updates. All cosmetics are permanent: once crafted they are bound to the player's account forever, are never wiped, and can be applied or removed at will.
Schemas
Every cosmetic begins as a Schema, a craftable blueprint representing the knowledge of how to create it. Schemas behave like any other inventory item until redeemed, which means a Schema looted during an Expedition can be taken from the player's body if they die before reaching safety. To use a Schema, the player must return to the Chateau, where using it consumes the Schema and permanently adds the cosmetic to their Appearance Menu. The cosmetic must then be crafted before it can be applied. Discovered cosmetics are account-wide, though character-specific cosmetics appear only on the matching hero.
Finding Schemas
Leveling up a character
Completing quests for NPCs, from storylines to rare daily, weekly, or monthly tasks
Unlocking situational questlines hidden behind specific choices
Finding them in the world, tucked into firewood, behind a desk, or in a roadside crate
Looting bosses or rare enemies that guard unique rewards
Prestiging a character
Discovering rare fixed locations with low-chance spawns
Purchasing them from rare vendors using in-game currency
Trading for them with other players through the in-game Auction House, planned for Early Access
Crafting Cosmetics
Once a Schema is used at the Chateau, the cosmetic can be crafted over time, drawing ingredients from the inventory and stash. Committing an ingredient to a recipe is permanent. The system tracks progress and enables the craft once all ingredients are gathered, and players can bookmark a Schema to track the ingredients they still need. The required ingredients are often tied to meaningful challenges such as defeating specific creatures or reaching remote locations, so acquiring a cosmetic is a measure of skill and persistence. Duplicate Schemas cannot be redeemed twice but retain value for trade on the Marketplace. Some Schemas will also be sold as paid content after Early Access to support ongoing development; those bought with real money cannot be resold in-game.
