Accuracy update (2026-04-04)
Honor of Kings: World launched on April 10, 2026 with 15 confirmed playable heroes spanning five distinct combat roles. Every hero originates from the Honor of Kings MOBA, but their abilities have been rebuilt from scratch for the open-world action RPG format. Rather than controlling heroes directly, the Flowborn protagonist learns each hero's combat style through the Flow system. This means a single character can access every hero's moveset, swapping between them at will.
The Dual-Class System allows equipping two hero styles at once, letting players switch between them mid-combat. This opens up hybrid playstyles: a player might freeze a boss with Wang Zhaojun's ice, then swap to Li Bai's sword stance to shatter the frozen target. Team composition matters in co-op dungeons and eight-player raids, where balancing damage, support, and tanking roles is essential.
Each hero has three active skills on short cooldowns, an evasion ability, and an ultimate. Light and heavy attacks round out the basic moveset. Beyond these base abilities, every hero style features three skill trees with over 50 total nodes per hero. Skill trees allow deep customization, letting players tailor the same hero to different content types or personal playstyles. For example, one Zhao Yun build might focus on burst damage for PvP, while another prioritizes sustained damage for raid encounters.
Some heroes were significantly reworked from their MOBA versions to fit the action RPG format. Zhuangzi was changed from a Support to a Tank, and several mages received entirely new kits designed around open-world exploration and boss encounters rather than lane-based PvP.
Warriors are front-line melee combatants who combine durability with strong physical damage. They excel at engaging enemies head-on and controlling space through wide-reaching attacks.

Heroes are not separate playable characters. Instead, the Flowborn protagonist learns new combat styles by encountering heroes throughout the main story and completing specific challenges. Once learned, a hero's style can be equipped, customized through skill trees, and swapped freely using the Dual-Class System. Temporary Hero Transformation sequences in certain story moments allow the Flowborn to fully assume a hero's form with exclusive abilities.
Focus on leveling one hero from each major role first: one damage dealer, one support or tank. This gives flexibility for co-op matchmaking.
Experiment with Dual-Class pairings. Combining a mage like Wang Zhaojun with a melee assassin creates powerful freeze-then-shatter combos.
Invest in skill trees early. The 50+ nodes per hero provide significant power spikes that outweigh raw gear upgrades at lower levels.
Pay attention to hero synergies in raids. Some heroes share elemental interactions: wind amplifies fire, ice setups enable burst follow-ups.
