Combat System

Comprehensive update based on official sources and research
Neverness to Everness features a third-person action-RPG combat system centered on real-time combos and Esper abilities. The combat emphasizes fast-paced action with strategic character swapping and ability combinations.
Players build a four-character team for combat encounters. The system allows chaining normal attacks, skills, and ultimate abilities while swapping characters mid-combo to maximize damage and create devastating combination attacks.
Each character possesses four skills: a normal attack as the base, supported by small skills (abilities), ultimate moves, and the ability to trigger QTEs (Quick Time Events) to connect with other team characters.
The Esper Cycle is the core combat mechanic in NTE. Players use character-specific Esper abilities and skill combos to infuse enemies with attributes. The game features six attributes: Light, Zero, Curse, Dark, Soul, and Image.
When two adjacent attributes from the cycle combine, they trigger powerful synergy reactions similar to elemental systems in other action RPGs. These synergies unlock new combat possibilities and can turn the tide of difficult battles.
Players build their Cycle Rate through combat actions. Once it reaches full capacity, they can unleash the full power of the Esper Cycle, gaining a decisive tactical advantage in battle.
Enemies have a stagger bar that fills as they take damage or when players land successful dodges. Once the bar is full, enemies enter a vulnerable state where they take significantly increased damage, creating opportunities for high-damage combos.
Recent beta tests have introduced parry systems and character-specific dodge-counter mechanics, adding more depth to defensive play.
Each character's Esper ability also introduces unique ways to traverse the city of Hethereau. For example, Nanally's Anti-Gravity ability enables players to soar over buildings and navigate the city with ease, transforming Hethereau into a playground for vertical exploration.
