Falling Frontier features nine playable factions. Each faction has its own starting technologies and perks that shape its early-game capabilities and strategic identity. All factions are descended from Earth's colonial power lineages, which have fractured and diverged following centuries of settlement across the solar system.
In the main campaign, Titan Rising, the player leads the forces of Titan. In skirmish and custom scenarios, any faction may be selected.
Confirmed Factions
The following factions have been confirmed in official materials ahead of Early Access launch. Full details for all nine factions, including names, lore, and unique mechanics, are expected to be revealed during the Early Access period.
Faction | Base of Power | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Earth | Earth | One of the founding colonial powers; confirmed playable faction |
Titan | Saturn's moon Titan | Playable faction and focus of the Titan Rising campaign; fighting for independence |
Mars | Mars | Confirmed antagonist faction in the Titan Rising campaign |
Venus | Venus | Confirmed colonial faction |
The remaining five faction names have not been officially announced ahead of the Early Access release. They will be documented here as they are confirmed.
Faction Differences
Each faction begins the game with different starting technologies and carries unique perks that influence fleet composition, economic development, or combat behavior. The development team designed a shared color language for ships across all factions, allowing players to identify a vessel's function from its visual design while still distinguishing faction aesthetics.
Pirates and Sub-Factions
The nine playable factions are not the only forces in a star system. A skirmish is described as a single main artificial-intelligence opponent with smaller sub-factions active elsewhere in the system. Pirates are confirmed among the vessels that appear: unlike the state fleets, which use a fixed palette per faction, pirate ships are coloured individually per hull, so no two look quite alike. Whether pirates count among the nine playable factions has not been stated, and no pirate faction has been named. Their visual treatment is covered alongside the wider colour scheme on the Ship Design and Classes page.
