Divinity is the long running role playing game franchise created by Larian Studios. The upcoming game, simply titled Divinity, is the seventh entry. The earlier games are listed here purely as background. This wiki covers only the new Divinity, not the previous titles.
The Earlier Games
Game | Year | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Divine Divinity | 2002 | The first game in the series, an action role playing game |
Beyond Divinity | 2004 | A direct follow up to Divine Divinity |
Divinity II: Ego Draconis | 2009 | A 3D action RPG, later expanded as Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga |
Divinity: Dragon Commander | 2013 | A mix of strategy, role playing, and real time battles |
Divinity: Original Sin | 2014 | A turn-based, party based RPG with co-op that became the studio's breakthrough |
Divinity: Original Sin II | 2017 | A larger, acclaimed sequel that expanded the cooperative RPG formula |
These entries are franchise background only. Their stories, characters, and systems are not part of the new game and are not documented on this wiki.
The New Divinity
The upcoming Divinity is the seventh game and the studio's first new Divinity title since Original Sin II in 2017. Larian has positioned it as a fresh starting point: players will not need to have played the earlier games. At the same time, the studio has said longtime fans should find threads of continuity. Larian has confirmed the new game is set in Rivellon, the world of the earlier entries, though it is built to be played without any prior Divinity experience.
A Note on Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur's Gate 3, released in 2023, is also a Larian game, but it belongs to the separate Baldur's Gate series and is not part of the Divinity franchise. It is referenced on this wiki only for context about the studio, not as a Divinity entry.
Why a New Numbered Entry
Larian Studios has framed the new Divinity as a return to its own intellectual property after Baldur's Gate 3. The studio has emphasized that it now owns the world, the rules, and the direction for the new project, and that this is part of why it is described as the most ambitious game the team has made. The chosen title is simply Divinity, not a numbered sequel or subtitled spinoff, signaling a fresh starting point even though it is the seventh main Divinity game.
Continuity and Newcomers
The earlier Divinity games are listed above as franchise background only. Their stories, characters, classes, and systems are not part of the new game and are not documented anywhere else on this wiki. Larian has said the new game is built to welcome players who have never touched any earlier entry, while including continuity threads for fans. The shared setting of Rivellon is the most prominent link confirmed so far.
Out of Scope on This Wiki
This wiki does not cover the older Divinity games (Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Divinity II, Divinity: Dragon Commander, Divinity: Original Sin, Divinity: Original Sin II), and does not cover Baldur's Gate 3 or the wider Baldur's Gate series. Those are separate properties with their own dedicated fan communities. See the Larian Studios page for studio level history.
