The Abyssal Dragon is the player character of Dinghai: The Ocean Pillar. He was once a legendary general who served under Emperor Yan before he was stripped of his name, cast into exile, and slain in battle. For centuries after his death, only a sliver of his soul survived.

Through a forbidden curse, he seizes a new body, that of Yi, and returns to the mortal world, carrying the weight of unfinished business and a regret that even death could not bury. His return sets the events of the story in motion, and uncovering the fate of the vanished flood hero Yu is described as part of his journey.

Across each run, the Abyssal Dragon fights with a chosen pair of weapons and an evolving set of abilities.
