Dinghai: The Ocean Pillar is structured as a roguelike. The Abyssal Dragon sets out on repeated runs, and each attempt brings new choices of weapons, abilities, and paths. Progression is built around persistence through failure.

As the developers describe it, every run brings new choices, and every death is a step toward something stronger, so setbacks feed directly into future attempts. Each cycle is also framed as revealing new pieces of a buried truth.
Weapons are chosen at the start of each run, and abilities are unlocked and combined along the way, so no two attempts play out the same. See Combat for how the dual-weapon system shapes each run.

Runs are punctuated by imposing boss encounters that test the weapon and ability combination a player has assembled. Specific bosses have not yet been detailed.
