Revision 1

Under Watchful Eyes is the rescue of Mert from Stoneward Post. It follows The Firebrand only if he is still alive when Coen reaches his cell.

Starting the quest

The key and prison

If you already hold the Prison Key, free Mert immediately. Otherwise, go upstairs to Friedo's room and take the key from the wall while his back is turned. Return to unlock the cell. The nearby guard becomes hostile when the door opens.

Leaving Mert imprisoned keeps the quest unfinished and awards no completion reward. Freeing him requires fighting Rayko, the Incorruptable, on the way upstairs regardless of the exit chosen.

Two escape routes

The shorter exit is a lit alcove on the northern side. Unlock the first door with the Prison Key, then open the second door beyond it. This route avoids most of the camp's soldiers.

The alternative is to fight toward the main gate, clearing the groups of guards on the way. You can search the areas cleared, but it involves more combat than the side exit.

Escort Mert outside to trigger his thanks and complete the rescue. He can appear again in Svartrau afterward, and his survival adds dialogue at the first meeting with Crake.
