The Beast of Balaur follows a missing man's trail into a mountain cave. The investigation can be completed in either half of the day, while the upper treasure chamber requires nighttime traversal.

Tracks and the cave
From the shrine, climb north and use Focus Mode to locate fresh footprints. Take the left branch where the trail divides and follow it to the cave. Inspect the skeletons in the entrance chamber, then crouch through the small opening toward the den.
Defeat the wolf-like beast inside. Its lunges leave openings for counterattacks after a dodge. Inspect the body beside the sarcophagus to identify Iancu; defeating the creature alone does not finish the investigation.
Hidden chamber and report
Return at night if necessary. Shadowstep into the passage above the arena, then follow it to the hidden chamber. The chest holds the legendary shortsword Gladius, and a nearby phial contains Brencis's blood. Drinking the phial grants Piercing Shriek and increases Corruption.
Return to Parlita and find Ciprian in the northern house beside the shrine. Tell him what happened to Iancu to complete the quest. The chamber's equipment and blood are optional finds along this route.
