Press L3 to take off from the ground or ascend vertically while airborne. Unlike standard Flight which requires an aerial start, Vertical Flight lets Oongka launch directly from the ground.
Vertical Flight is Oongka's unique aerial mobility tool, distinct from the standard glider. It enables ground-to-air transitions without needing a ledge or jump point. The 50 Stamina cost is notable, so manage your resources carefully. Use it to reach elevated positions, escape ground-level danger, or set up aerial attacks like Meteor Kick.
In Patch 1.02.00, the control input for triggering Vertical Flight was changed. Previously bound to L3 (left stick click), the ability is now mapped to the Circle button instead. The new binding is much easier to trigger reliably and is far simpler to combine with Oongka's jetpack and other boost mechanics, which previously conflicted with the stick click.
The same patch granted Oongka access to Axiom Force, which creates a powerful traversal combo with Vertical Flight. Because Oongka can now ascend straight up on demand and then grapple with Axiom Force to reach ledges and puzzle objects, his vertical reach in Patch 1.02.00 is unprecedented. In many areas of the map, Oongka can climb higher than Kliff using this combination, since Kliff lacks a true vertical-flight skill of his own. This makes Oongka an especially strong choice for exploration of tall structures, cliffs, and sanctum ceilings where verticality matters.

Patch 1.04.00 fixed a long-running bug where horizontal movement during Vertical Flight did not work as expected, leaving Oongka stuck on a fixed vector after lifting off. With the patch applied the flight handles direction inputs reliably while airborne, so players can drift sideways or back during the ascent the same way the descent already worked. The same patch enables Oongka's blaster to be fired during Vertical Flight, so the skill now doubles as an aerial firing platform rather than a pure traversal tool. See Patch 1.04.00 for the full Oongka skill change list.
