The Final Battle is the first sub-chapter of Chapter 12: The Abyss in Crimson Desert. It covers the Greymanes' coordinated military assault on the primary Abyss gate, leading up to Kliff's direct pursuit of Caliburn. The sub-chapter spans four quests that escalate from tactical planning at Fort Musket to a full-scale siege on Caliburn's fortress.
The sub-chapter is primarily combat-focused, with minimal puzzle elements outside of managing combat arenas efficiently. Preparation before starting Chapter 12 is important: once you pass through the Forbidden Gate in the final quest of this section, you cannot leave to resupply until the entire chapter is complete.
Stock these before starting Chapter 12:
At least 200 Grilled Meat (300 is safer given the back-to-back fights)
Palmar Pills for emergency revival during multi-phase boss fights
All weapons and armor at maximum refinement level
Best available Abyss Cores slotted into equipment
Fire-resistant armor for the later fights in The Void sub-chapter

Infiltration / Story |
The sub-chapter opens with a war council at the Greymane Camp command tent at Fort Musket's Outpost. Travel to the marker and speak with three allied commanders: Stefan Lanford, Drake Wells, and Barden Middler. A cutscene plays showing the full battle plan, with Yann, Naira, and other key allies present for the briefing.
After the cutscene, interact with the tactical map on the table to assign allied groups to different defensive positions around the Abyss gate. The assignments affect some dialogue in later scenes but do not change the overall outcome of the battle. Once assignments are confirmed, Precise Execution completes and Deferred Advance begins automatically.
Three large cannons are positioned on the battlefield and must be destroyed before the main assault can proceed. Each cannon is marked on the map. The Abyss corruption has modified these weapons, making them far more destructive than standard artillery.
If you have Blackstar (the Dragon Mount) available, using it makes this phase significantly faster and easier. Mount Blackstar and use aerial attacks to destroy each cannon from above, avoiding ground-level cannon fire entirely. Without Blackstar, fight through the defending enemy clusters on foot and destroy each cannon directly once the guards around it are cleared.
Tactical note: start with the leftmost or rightmost cannon rather than the middle one. Approaching the center cannon first puts Kliff in range of all three simultaneously. Working from either side means only one or two cannons can target you at once, reducing the incoming fire significantly.
Destroying all three cannons completes Deferred Advance.
With the cannons eliminated, the Greymanes move to the staging point for the main assault. A short ceremony cutscene plays as the allied forces gather. After the ceremony, wait at the staging area for the attack signal to trigger.
Once the signal fires, the Greymanes charge the fortress. Kliff's objective is the rear gate. Fight through the defenders along the approach path, then confront the Righteous Inquisitors Commander who guards the rear gate. This is a standard named enemy fight rather than a full boss encounter; the Commander has elevated health and damage compared to regular Inquisitors, but follows predictable attack patterns. Defeating the Commander opens the rear gate.
Breaching the rear gate completes Departure of the Brave.
Inside the fortress, the objective is to locate Caliburn at the highest open area of the castle. Fight through Inquisitors and Abyss-corrupted soldiers on the way up through multiple floors. The route is mostly linear, following staircases and open corridors toward the upper battlements.
A cutscene triggers when Kliff reaches the top level. Caliburn, cornered by the Greymanes' assault, escapes through a portal into the Final Abyss. This initiates the transition into the second sub-chapter of Chapter 12, The Void. A warning appears at this point: once you follow Caliburn through the portal, there is no returning to resupply.
Watching the escape cutscene completes Forbidden Gate and The Final Battle sub-chapter.
The Final Battle sub-chapter awards no item rewards upon completion. The narrative payoff is the transition into The Void, which contains the chapter's climactic boss encounters.
Assign tactical roles during Precise Execution as you prefer; the choices affect a few lines of dialogue but not any gameplay outcomes.
During Deferred Advance, start with the outermost cannon rather than the center. The firing arcs of all three cannons overlap at the middle position, making the center approach the most dangerous entry point.
Blackstar (Dragon Mount) substantially speeds up the cannon destruction phase. If Blackstar is unlocked and at a usable level, prioritize using it for this quest.
The Righteous Inquisitors Commander in Departure of the Brave is a named enemy rather than a true boss. Heavy attack combinations work well since the Commander lacks the evasion patterns of actual boss encounters.
Stock all consumables before entering the Forbidden Gate in the final quest. After the portal cutscene, you cannot return to the open world until both The Void quests are complete.
The full Chapter 12 final gauntlet, starting from the Forbidden Gate portal, includes multiple back-to-back fights with no rest points. Bring the full consumable supply outlined in the Preparation section above.
