The Face Behind the Mask is a main quest sub-chapter within Chapter 3: Howling Hill of Crimson Desert. After the Greymanes regroup at their camp, Kliff is sent to investigate an attack at Glenbright Manor in the Grace Estate. The investigation leads to a tracking sequence through the countryside and culminates in a two-phase boss fight against the Devil of the Reed Field. This sub-chapter introduces the lantern-based tracking mechanic that recurs throughout the game.

Travel to the Greymane Camp and speak with Marius. During the conversation, Kliff meets Duane, who provides details about the situation at Glenbright Manor.
Travel to Glenbright Manor in the Grace Estate. Upon arrival, you will be ambushed by enemies. Defeat the attackers, then search the manor for survivors. On the second level, locate the wounded servant by the window of the study. He hands over the Iron Door Key of Grace Manor.
The tracking mechanic unlocks at this point. Equip your Lantern or Blinding Sword and follow the trail of the Devil of the Reed Field from the open window. The trail leads toward Reedfield Graves. You can optionally avoid combat at the farmhouse along the way by going directly to the graves.
Using the Lantern, continue following the trail westward. The Devil appears multiple times during the chase, and you must damage it in each encounter before it flees to the next zone. Keep your guard up between encounters as regular enemies patrol the route.
The trail ends at a large reed field with an altar beneath a tree. Approach the altar and examine the doll placed there. This triggers the boss fight.
Phase 1: The Devil of the Reed Field fights at close range with fast, sweeping attacks. Focus on parrying its strikes and countering when openings appear. Perfect parries stagger the boss briefly, creating windows for damage.
Phase 2: The Devil retreats and summons five totems around the arena. You must destroy all five totems while dodging the boss's ranged attacks. Once the totems are down, the boss becomes vulnerable again. During this phase, you may learn the Swift Stab skill.
The Lantern is essential for the tracking segments. Make sure it is accessible in your quick-use slots before starting the quest.
During the boss fight's second phase, prioritize destroying the totems quickly. The boss's ranged attacks become more aggressive the longer the totems remain active.
You can skip the farmhouse combat along the tracking route to save time, but clearing it yields bonus experience and loot.
Swift Stab, the skill you may learn during the fight, is a fast thrusting attack well suited for punishing brief openings in boss fights.
