The Red Needle is a one-handed weapon in Crimson Desert with a distinctive red blade and a grip that resembles a lightsaber hilt. It is classified as a katana-style sword and can be found inside the Sanctum of Oblation on the Crowtalon Isles in the southeastern corner of Delesyia. No boss fight is required to obtain it; players only need to solve a short lantern puzzle inside the sanctum to unlock the treasure chest containing the weapon.
The Red Needle arrives at Refinement 4 with a base Attack of 19, Level 2 Critical Rate, and Level 1 Attack Speed. All three of its Abyss Gear slots come pre-filled with Destruction I, Insight I, and Swift I. This makes it immediately combat-ready without needing to visit a Witch to socket additional cores. For players looking to build around critical hits and fast attacks, the Red Needle is one of the strongest mid-game pickups available.
Attribute | Value |
|---|---|
Type | One-Handed Weapon (Katana) |
Rarity | Unique |
Attack | 19 |
Attack Speed | Lv. 1 |
Critical Rate | Lv. 2 |
Defense | 0 |
Movement Speed | Lv. 0 |
Refinement | 4 (as found) |
Abyss Gear Slots | 3 (all pre-filled) |
With Level 2 Critical Rate out of the box, the Red Needle sits above most other one-handed weapons in terms of crit consistency. The Level 1 Attack Speed makes it faster than standard swords but slightly slower than daggers, providing a balanced rhythm for melee combos.
The Red Needle comes with three Abyss Gears already socketed:
Abyss Gear | Effect | Synergy |
|---|---|---|
Destruction I | +1 Attack | Flat damage increase on every hit |
Insight I | +Critical Rate (Lv. 1) | Stacks with the weapon's native Lv. 2 crit rate for consistent burst damage |
Swift I | +Attack Speed (Lv. 1) | Speeds up combos, useful for crowd control and aggressive playstyles |
Insight I is widely considered the strongest default pairing because it amplifies what the Red Needle already excels at: landing critical hits. Players who prefer raw speed can keep Swift I and lean into a rapid-attack playstyle, while those focused on damage output may want to replace Swift I with a second Destruction modifier at a Witch vendor.
The Sanctum of Oblation is located on a small island in the southeastern part of Delesyia, on the Crowtalon Isles. You will need to progress far enough in the main story to reach the Delesyia region, which opens up during the mid-game chapters. There is no specific quest prerequisite for entering the sanctum itself, but traveling to this remote island requires access to the broader Delesyia map.
Enter the Sanctum of Oblation through the east-side entrance.
Take a right turn and follow the corridor.
Watch for a sneaky left turn. Take the left path and continue downward.
Find a puzzle piece next to a stone lantern in the lower area.
Ignite the lantern (hold the interact button) to trigger the unlocking mechanism.
Loop back around to the door that has now opened nearby.
Open the treasure chest inside the newly accessible room to claim the Red Needle.
The puzzle does not require defeating any boss. The main challenge is finding the lantern, which is tucked away in a side area that is easy to miss on a first pass through the sanctum. If you have already cleared the sanctum's main challenge, you can still return to collect the Red Needle at any time.
The Red Needle arrives at Refinement 4, which is unusually high for a weapon obtained from a treasure chest. Most unique weapons start at Refinement 1 or 2, so the Red Needle gives players a significant head start in terms of base stats. Since it is a unique weapon, it cannot be refined using duplicates. Instead, you will need specific refinement materials to push it beyond level 4 at a blacksmith. Keep in mind that refinement increases the weapon's base Attack value but does not improve Attack Speed or Critical Rate.
The Red Needle occupies a niche between speed and precision. Its Level 2 Critical Rate makes it one of the best one-handed weapons for crit-focused builds, while the Level 1 Attack Speed keeps combo chains flowing without the sluggishness of heavier swords. Players who pair it with crit-boosting armor and accessories can achieve a high crit percentage that makes every fight feel efficient.
One of the most popular setups is combining the Red Needle with the Piercing Bloom Abyss Core socketed into armor. This creates a bleed-focused build reminiscent of "Rivers of Blood" from other action RPGs. The Red Needle's fast attack speed triggers Piercing Bloom's thorn projectiles frequently, and the combination of critical hits plus bleed damage over time tears through both regular enemies and bosses. For players interested in this approach, see the Build Guide: Swordsman for a full breakdown.
Weapon | Attack | Crit Rate | Atk Speed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Red Needle | 19 | Lv. 2 | Lv. 1 | Crit-focused, Refinement 4 as found |
17 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 0 | Comes with Insight I, Gale I, Destruction I | |
21 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 0 | Higher ATK, unique Order from Above ability | |
Varies | Varies | Varies | Mace, unique Bee Swarm ability for AoE damage |
While the Sword of Greed has a higher base Attack at 21, the Red Needle's Level 2 Critical Rate gives it a meaningful edge in average damage per second for players who invest in crit-scaling gear. The Red Needle also arrives at Refinement 4 compared to Refinement 5 for the Sword of Greed, so the actual stat gap at the time of acquisition is relatively small.
The Red Needle does not require any boss fight to obtain. If you can reach Delesyia, you can grab it immediately by solving the lantern puzzle.
Pair it with the Piercing Bloom Abyss Core on your armor for a devastating bleed build that combines fast crit strikes with thorn damage.
Since the weapon already has Insight I slotted, avoid socketing another Insight I elsewhere unless you are stacking crit rate intentionally. Instead, consider adding Destruction modifiers for flat ATK boosts.
The Refinement 4 starting point means you can save refinement materials for other weapons and still have the Red Needle perform strongly throughout mid-game content.
Visit a Witch to extract and rearrange the pre-slotted Abyss Gears if the default setup does not fit your build.
