Initial version with stats, crafting recipe, refinement details, and combat tips
The Mirror of Night is a shield in Crimson Desert that provides 4 Defense along with a Movement Speed Lv. 2 bonus. As a small shield, it is lighter and faster to raise than the bulkier kite and large shield variants, making it well-suited for players who prefer an agile, dodge-heavy fighting style rather than standing behind a wall of steel.
The Movement Speed bonus is what makes the Mirror of Night stand out among early-game shields. Most shields at this tier offer no speed bonus at all, meaning players typically sacrifice mobility for protection. The Mirror of Night lets you keep your movement sharp while still having a block option available for emergencies. This makes it particularly useful during exploration and fights against mobile enemies that punish slow-moving targets.

Two core slots are available for Abyss Gear modifications. Given the shield's emphasis on mobility, slotting cores that further improve movement speed or reduce guard stamina cost pairs well with its design. Alternatively, you can use the slots to shore up its modest defense value with flat defense bonuses.
The Mirror of Night can be crafted at any blacksmith. The recipe is unlocked by reading the Shields of the World, Vol. II crafting manual, which is sold at the equipment shop in Calphade. After purchasing and examining the book in your inventory, the recipe appears at the forge.
Required materials:
Iron Ore x7
Copper Ore x2
Both ores are mined from deposits throughout the Hernand region. Iron Ore nodes are extremely common, and Copper Ore appears alongside them at most mining locations. With a pickaxe and a short trip through any mountain pass, you can gather enough material for this shield in a few minutes.
The Mirror of Night can also be obtained by completing the Sanctum of Atonement, located southwest of Haunted Hill in Hernand. After cleansing the sanctum by placing the two Fusion Reactor Cores into their slots, light the two lanterns next to the generator to open a blocked room. Inside, a chest contains the shield along with a Refined Palmar Pill.
The Mirror of Night has ten refinement levels available at any blacksmith. Early refinement uses common ores and Silver, while later levels require rarer materials like Gold Ore and Abyss Artifacts. Each level increases the shield's defense, gradually closing the gap between it and higher-tier shields. Because the crafting cost is low, refining the Mirror of Night a few levels early on is an efficient way to stay protected without waiting for a better shield drop.
The Movement Speed Lv. 2 bonus stacks with other speed modifiers from armor and Abyss Gear. If you build around mobility, the Mirror of Night can help you maintain enough speed to dodge most attacks while still having a block as a fallback
Small shields in Crimson Desert block less total damage per hit compared to large shields and kite shields. Use the Mirror of Night for quick, reactive blocks against single strikes rather than trying to tank sustained combo strings
Pair this shield with a fast weapon like a rapier or dagger to maximize the speed-focused playstyle. The combination of high movement speed and quick attack chains lets you weave in and out of enemy range
Against bosses with telegraphed heavy attacks, a quick shield raise with the Mirror of Night can save you from taking a full hit while letting you reposition immediately afterward, thanks to the speed bonus
For higher defense at the cost of speed, consider upgrading to the Shield of Radiance (DEF 5) or Shield of Sacrifice (DEF 6) as you progress through the game
Shield of Radiance (higher defense, also grants movement speed)
Shield of Sacrifice (highest defense in this tier, preset Abyss cores)
