Merton is the stablekeeper at the Hernand Stable in the City of Hernand. Renowned for his exceptional riding skills, Merton once served as a courier for House Celeste before settling into his current role tending to the town's horses. He is the primary mount vendor in the starting region and offers essential horse care services that every player needs.
Merton manages the Hernand Stable, located just north of the City of Hernand, slightly west of the Abyss Nexus fast travel point. The stable is near the Equinsher Saddlery, which sells horse equipment and saddles. Both locations serve as the main hub for horse-related services in the Hernand region.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Region | |
Location | Hernand Stable (north of city, near Abyss Nexus) |
Faction | Duchy of Hernand |
Role | Stablekeeper / Horse Vendor |
Merton sells two horse breeds from his stable. Each breed comes in multiple color variations. Prices are listed in Silver (s).
Breed | Stock | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
2 | 2.64s | Basic breed; same type as the player's starter horse. Low stats but affordable. | |
1 | 3.43s | Improved breed with better speed and stamina than Herspia. |
While Merton sells horses directly, players can also obtain mounts by taming wild horses found throughout the world or by stealing horses from NPCs. Taming is often more cost-effective for higher-tier breeds.
Beyond selling horses, Merton provides a full suite of mount management services:
Service | Description |
|---|---|
Retrieve and Heal Horse | Summons back a missing or lost mount and fully heals it. Costs Copper or Silver depending on the severity of the horse's injuries. |
Mount Switching | Players who own multiple horses can switch their active mount through the Manage Horses menu. Select the desired horse and click Switch Mount. |
Horse Stabling | Store horses you are not currently riding. Stabled horses are safe and can be retrieved at any stable in the world. |
Horse Feeding | Feed your horse to restore stamina and improve its condition. |
Horse Petting | Interact with your horse to strengthen your bond. |
Horses in Crimson Desert can become fatigued or injured, which reduces their sprint speed and overall performance. If your horse stops sprinting or appears sluggish, it likely needs healing. Visit Merton or any stablekeeper in the world to restore your mount. For more detailed information on horse mechanics, see the Horse Guide.
Merton's stable is the closest horse care location to the main town of Hernand, making it the most convenient stop for mount maintenance in the early game. Later in the game, additional stables become available in other regions.
Before becoming a stablekeeper, Merton was a courier for House Celeste, one of the noble families in Hernand. His riding experience from those years gave him an intimate understanding of horse care and breeding. He eventually left courier work to manage the Hernand Stable full-time, where he now serves both the townsfolk and visiting adventurers.
Visit Merton whenever your horse is injured or fatigued. A healed mount sprints faster and performs better in combat.
If you find a wild horse you prefer, you can stable your current mount with Merton and switch to the new one.
The Herspia horses Merton sells are affordable but have low stats. Consider taming a wild Priden or better breed for improved performance.
The Equinsher Saddlery nearby sells horse equipment like saddles that improve your mount's capabilities.
