Knowledge System

Added light reflection artifact detection, Threaten dialogue as knowledge tool, constellation discovery details, expanded observation-based learning examples
Crimson Desert's knowledge system is an alternative progression path that rewards curiosity and attention. Instead of buying all abilities from a menu, many skills and upgrades require you to discover them in the world. The system tracks what you have seen, learned, and found.
Some skills can only be unlocked by witnessing them in the world. You cannot purchase these from a skill tree. You must find them.
Confirmed examples:
Watching an NPC fish teaches you the fishing skill.
Observing martial masters demonstrate techniques unlocks those techniques.
Seeing an enemy perform a special attack mid-combat can let you learn that attack.
Witnessing a palm strike or belly flop AoE from an NPC makes those abilities available.
This design means progression rewards exploration and paying attention to the world around you, not just grinding activities.
When entering new areas, you can scan the region to reveal points of interest. Scanning highlights:
Quest locations
Resource deposits
Hidden areas and secrets
NPC locations with learnable skills
A unique knowledge-gathering tool. During conversations with certain NPCs, a "Threaten" option allows you to intimidate, rob, or interrogate them. This can reveal:
Locations of hidden treasures and secret areas
Information about nearby dangers or boss weaknesses
Items the NPC is carrying
Shortcuts to quest objectives
See Secrets & Easter eggs for more on hidden content.
Some Abyss Artifacts are hidden and can be detected by reflecting sword light onto specific surfaces. When your weapon catches the light near a hidden artifact, it reveals the artifact's location with a visual cue. This is one of seven confirmed methods for obtaining artifacts.
The game includes astronomical puzzles involving constellations. A confirmed constellation puzzle exists at the Steel Mountains tower. The system involves observing the night sky and aligning patterns. Constellation discoveries may unlock lore entries, hidden locations, or special rewards.
The knowledge system ties into the game's overall gear-based progression. There are no traditional experience points. Character strength comes from equipment, artifacts, and discovered skills. The knowledge system ensures that a curious, observant player progresses faster than one who ignores the world around them.
