New article covering Knowledge System from Features Overview 2 and press coverage
The Knowledge System is an alternative progression path in Crimson Desert that rewards exploration and observation. Rather than acquiring skills solely through Abyss Artifacts or leveling, players can learn new abilities by engaging with the world around them.
By scanning regions, players increase their knowledge of the area. Higher knowledge levels unlock awareness of hidden locations, resources, and opportunities. This system encourages thorough exploration of every corner of each region.
A unique aspect of the Knowledge System is the ability to learn skills by observing NPCs performing actions. When players watch NPCs demonstrate techniques — whether combat moves, crafting methods, or other abilities — those skills become available for the player to learn and use.
This mechanic suggests an extensive library of learnable abilities hidden throughout the world, discoverable only by paying attention to the inhabitants of Pywel.
The Knowledge System also interacts with the game's dialogue mechanics. A "Threaten" conversation option enables players to intimidate NPCs for information, potentially unlocking knowledge about hidden locations, abilities, or quest opportunities. This choice may create consequences such as wanted status or faction reputation changes.
A related exploration mechanic involves discovering hidden constellations. By observing specific landmarks — such as towers in the Steel Mountains — during certain conditions, players can reveal hidden celestial patterns that need to be aligned with counterparts, suggesting a puzzle-solving system with undisclosed rewards tied to astronomical knowledge.
