Shield combat in Crimson Desert can feel tricky at first since the Shield Bash requires a specific input sequence. This guide covers how to perform shield attacks, tips for related challenges, and strategies for shield-based fighting.
Action | PC | PlayStation | Xbox |
|---|---|---|---|
Raise Shield (Guard) | Hold RMB | Hold L1 | Hold LB |
Hold RMB + Hold LMB | Hold L1 + Hold R2 | Hold LB + Hold RT |
Equip a one-handed weapon and a shield.
Hold the guard button first to raise your shield. This also locks onto the nearest target automatically.
While still holding guard, hold the heavy attack button to execute the Shield Bash.
The timing matters: do not release guard before pressing heavy attack, or the bash will not trigger.
Several challenges require you to defeat enemies using a shield. Here are tips for completing them:
Target weak enemies: Fight bandits or weak wildlife near Hernand. Look for enemies that die in 2 to 3 Shield Bash hits.
Soften them up first: Use your weapon to lower an enemy's health, then finish with a Shield Bash to get the challenge credit.
Fight on flat terrain: Avoid slopes and cliffs. Fall damage from knockback can steal your kill credit.
Use the bash arc: The Shield Bash has a wide swing arc. Against groups, position yourself in the middle and swing to hit multiple enemies.
Running while holding guard triggers a Shield Charge, which knocks back enemies in your path. While visually impressive against groups, the charge is less reliable for challenge kills. Stick to the standard Shield Bash for precision.
Pressing heavy attack before guard is fully raised. Wait for the lock-on confirmation first.
Releasing guard too early, which cancels the bash animation.
Fighting strong enemies for challenges. Weak targets let you control the kill more reliably.
