Initial version: comprehensive Helms Hyena mount article
The Helms Hyena is a temporary mount in Crimson Desert. These spotted hyenas are lean, fast predators that roam the arid and semi-arid regions of Pywel. While they lack the raw power of larger predators like bears or the Gristle Wolf, Helms Hyenas are nimble and quick, making them useful for covering ground in a hurry.
The Helms Hyena comes in multiple visual variations, giving players a chance to ride hyenas with different coat patterns. Regardless of variation, all Helms Hyenas share the same base stats and handle identically. Like all predator mounts, they are Fleeting Companions that cannot be stabled or summoned.
The Helms Hyena is one of the lighter temporary mounts in terms of raw combat stats. Its stat profile reflects a creature built for speed and opportunistic strikes rather than prolonged brawling:
Stat | Value |
|---|---|
Health | 200 |
Stamina | 100 |
Attack | 70 |
Defense | 15 |
Speed | 1 |
Acceleration | 1 |
Handling | 1 |
Jump Power | 1 |
Type | Ground |
With only 200 Health and 15 Defense, the Helms Hyena is fragile compared to heavier predators. Its 70 Attack is moderate, roughly matching the Large Wolf and Large White Wolf. The hyena's real advantage lies in its agile movement animations and quick turning ability, which make it feel faster and more responsive than its base speed stat suggests.
Helms Hyenas are obtained through the standard predator mount combat submission method:
Find a Helms Hyena in the wild. They are commonly found in the drier, open regions of Pywel, particularly in scrubland and plains areas.
Attack the hyena and reduce its health until it collapses in a stunned state.
Press the mount prompt (Square on PlayStation, X on Xbox) to climb on before it recovers.
Because of its relatively low 200 Health, the Helms Hyena goes down much faster than bears or Gristle Wolves. Most players can subdue one in just a few hits, making it one of the easiest predator mounts to obtain. Be careful not to accidentally kill it outright; ease up on your attacks as its health gets low.
The Helms Hyena has multiple visual coat variations. These are purely cosmetic differences and do not affect the mount's stats or combat performance. Different hyenas you encounter may sport distinct spotted patterns or color tones on their fur. Riding different variations does not create separate entries in the Knowledge Journal.
The Helms Hyena is a temporary mount (Fleeting Companion). This means:
It cannot be registered at any stable or recalled through the mount menu.
It cannot be equipped with any mount gear.
It does not gain experience or level up.
Once you dismount, the hyena becomes hostile and will attack you.
If it dies during the ride, you are thrown off.
The Helms Hyena is one of the easiest predator mounts to subdue thanks to its low 200 HP. Use light attacks to avoid accidentally killing it.
Do not bring the hyena into heavy combat situations. Its 15 Defense and 200 Health mean it will go down fast against groups of enemies.
Use the hyena for quick repositioning or covering moderate distances in the wild. It is more of a travel convenience than a combat platform.
Riding a Helms Hyena registers its entry in the Fleeting Companions section of the Knowledge Journal.
Dismount before the hyena's health drops too low in combat. Being thrown off when it dies leaves you vulnerable.
