No, main combat weapons in Crimson Desert do not have durability and will never break. You can swing your sword, hammer, or spear as much as you want without worrying about degradation. This applies to all melee weapons and bows.
Item Type | Has Durability? | Details |
|---|---|---|
No | Swords, hammers, spears, and all melee combat weapons have no durability. They cannot break or degrade. | |
No | Bows do not degrade. Arrows are consumable, but the bow itself lasts forever. | |
Shields | Yes | Shields lose durability when blocking attacks. Heavy hits drain more durability. A broken shield causes Kliff to stagger severely when blocking. |
Pickaxes | Yes | Pickaxes for mining ore degrade with use and will eventually break. Replacements are cheap from provisioner vendors. |
Yes | Logging Axes for woodcutting degrade with use and will eventually break. Available from the same provisioner shops. | |
Yes | Equipped jewelry has durability bars (shown on the HUD as white bars). Special accessory abilities also have limited charges (shown as blue bars). |
Shields have a Current Durability value that drops through blocking. When it reaches zero, the shield is considered broken. A broken shield does not disappear from your equipment, but it loses its protective benefits: Kliff will stagger heavily on every blocked hit, making it far worse than just dodging.
Repair shields at any blacksmith to restore their durability to full.
Heavier shields generally have more durability but are slower to use.
Failed refinement attempts on shields can permanently lower their maximum durability, so be cautious when upgrading.
The Pickaxe and Logging Axe both degrade with each use. When they break, you simply need to buy a replacement from a Provisioner's Shop in Hernand or any other settlement. These tools are inexpensive, so carry a spare if you plan a long gathering session.
You can also use skills as alternatives to gathering tools. Force Palm breaks ore veins without a Pickaxe, and Turning Slash fells trees without a Logging Axe. These skill alternatives never degrade since they are not physical items.
Grindstones: Found at camps and near blacksmith shops. Using a grindstone temporarily boosts your weapon's attack power. This is not a durability repair; it is a temporary buff.
Anvils: Found alongside grindstones. Using an anvil temporarily boosts your armor's defense.
For actual repairs, visit a blacksmith NPC in any settlement.
The absence of weapon durability is a deliberate design choice by Pearl Abyss. It means you can focus on combat without worrying about wear and tear on your favorite sword. The durability system is reserved for tools and shields, where it serves as a resource management mechanic rather than a punishment for using your best gear.
