The Chronos Order is the principal religious faction on Setera in Chrono Odyssey. The Order is organized around the worship of Chronos, the god of time who created the twelve planets, and treats the defense of Setera against the Void as a sacred duty. It is the most visible and most politically established institution any player will encounter during the early game.

The Order's hierarchy is built around three intertwined roles. The Pope sits at the top of the institutional pyramid and steers the Order's official doctrine. The Saintess delivers prophecy, performs charitable works, and serves as the Order's public spiritual face. The Knights Templar form the Order's armed wing and are tasked with protecting the clergy, enforcing doctrine, and answering Void incursions on the Order's behalf. A wider clergy of priests, including wandering pilgrims who carry the Saintess's prophecies to outlying settlements, fills out the body of the Order.
Role | Holder | Function |
|---|---|---|
Pope | Head of the institutional Order; sets doctrine and directs the Order's political relationships | |
Saintess | Living saint of the Order; delivers prophetic visions and inspires the faithful | |
Commander of the Knights Templar | Leads the Order's military forces and defends the Order against the Void | |
Wandering Priest | Travels Setera carrying the Saintess's prophecies to outlying communities |
The Order is closely tied to House Khalitan, an old noble house that has patronized the Order across generations. Both the current Pope Theophanes V and the current Saintess Gaiana come from House Khalitan: the family name binds the institutional and prophetic halves of the Order to a single lineage. Theophanes is the fifth Pope to bear his name, which reflects how deeply the papacy has been held within the house.
The Knights Templar are the Order's standing military force. They are charged with three overlapping responsibilities: protecting the clergy and the Order's sites, preserving the Order's doctrine against heresy, and confronting Void agents that threaten Setera directly. They operate alongside the Frontier without being absorbed into it. Where the Frontier is a mercenary-rooted force that recruits skill from anywhere, the Knights Templar is a doctrinal force that recruits inside the Order. The Commander, Michael, is unusual for a templar leader in that he favors a saber over the traditional polearm or mace, but his command of the order remains conventional.
Publicly, the Order positions itself as the steward of Chronos's design for Setera. Its priests teach that Chronos created twelve planets and seeded each one with Arche (the fundamental life energy), that Setera was singled out with abundant Arche, and that defending Setera is a sacred trust given to its people in return. The Saintess's prophecies are the Order's most widely heard public communications: ordinary Seterans hear them through pilgrimage circuits and through the wandering priests who carry her visions to villages and small settlements.
Inside the Order, doctrine includes a stance on the World Movers (the refugees from the eleven worlds the Void has already consumed) and on the Deathless cult that has embraced rather than resisted Void contamination. The Order rejects the Deathless's teachings as heresy and is one of the in-world institutions that may push back against them. Its position on the Outcasts and other World Mover subfactions is less openly hostile but is still distant.
Players join Idraiginn, the specialist unit that fights the Void on Setera's behalf. Idraiginn is not part of the Chronos Order, but the two organizations work in parallel on the same problem and the early game brings the player into contact with the Order through its public-facing figures, particularly Gaiana's prophecies and Romek's wandering ministry. Players should expect the Order to be a recurring source of quests, story beats, and political pressure rather than a single quest hub.
Theophanes V: Pope of the Chronos Order; head of House Khalitan; sets doctrine and represents the Order externally.
Gaiana: Saintess of the Order; granddaughter of Theophanes V; her prophecies are the Order's most widely circulated public statements.
Michael: Commander of the Knights Templar; the Order's lead military officer; uniquely wields a saber.
Romek: Wandering priest of the Order; carries Gaiana's prophecies to outlying settlements; known for a gruff, sharp-tongued personality.
Chronos: The god of time worshipped by the Order.
Idraiginn: The player's faction; separate from the Order but allied against the Void.
The Frontier: Setera's mercenary-rooted military force; works alongside the Knights Templar without being part of the Order.
The Deathless: A heretical cult that has embraced Void corruption; the Order rejects their teachings.
World of Setera: The planet the Order serves and defends.
