Arkiloth
September 21, 2026 at 11:52 AM
Added the official lore that every steered 隆舶 is a gift of 圣宫, the 隆舶茧 cocoons, the player's own 隆舶 home, and the official definition of 海巡兽 as tamed transport
Arkiloth are the colossal living creatures on whose backs humanity survives in Bringer. Official English copy states that "Humanity can only survive upon the backs of colossal creatures known as Arkiloth", and the studio's announcement overview lists "colossal lifeforms" among the three forces that shape the adventure, alongside clashes between civilizations and an uncertain fate.
Because Thalassa leaves the land beneath it fleeting, the Arkiloth are not transport in the ordinary sense. They are where people live. The migration that the premise describes is the Arkiloth moving, with human settlement riding on top of them.
Arkiloth is the second of the two world terms the studio glosses inline in its own prose. The traditional Chinese page writes 名為「隆舶(Arkiloth)」的巨型生物, and the Korean page writes 아르킬로스(Arkiloth).
Language | Form | Note |
|---|---|---|
English | Arkiloth | Official English form. Use this. |
Chinese, traditional (overseas) | 隆舶 | Glossed inline beside the English form |
Chinese, simplified (Mainland China) | 隆舶 | Written identically in both scripts |
Japanese | アルキロス | Katakana transliteration |
Korean | 아르킬로스 | Glossed inline beside the English form |
Two other spellings appear in the wild and neither is official. "Longbo" is simply the Mandarin pinyin of 隆舶 and shows up in older Chinese material and in write ups drawn from it. "Yungbak" is a Korean language romanization of the same characters. Both refer to the Arkiloth and neither is a separate creature. This wiki uses Arkiloth.
Official material also uses a descriptive category for these creatures, separate from their name. The English site closes its description by inviting players to "begin a legendary tale of coexistence with ancient beasts", and the reveal trailer narration says "Upon this Thalassa, where we coexist with Ancient Beasts." The Chinese form is 巨獸 in traditional script and 巨兽 in simplified, the Japanese is 巨獣 and the Korean is 고대의 거수. These are descriptive words for the same kind of creature, not a second proper noun, and no page should treat 巨獸 as a name.
The theme attached to them is coexistence, written 共生 in both Chinese and Japanese. The relationship is framed as living alongside the creatures rather than taming or fighting them, although official material never rules out conflict with them either.
The official Mainland site's setting section is the first official text to describe an Arkiloth as a place. Three of its four regions stand on one. 达卡斯, the wealth star of the pure sea, sits on the largest 隆舶 in the sea, a giant sea star that alone stays still where north and south meet, and at night the 生物脉冲, bio pulse, flowing around it gives off a gentle glow. 蛋波 is a village on a small 隆舶 in the southern region of 月洲 that looks like a round beetle beside the giants; its people collect the gas the beast gives off for energy and use its many coloured body fluids for dyeing. 岩山城 is a mobile fortress on the spine of a giant 隆舶. The Regions and Factions page carries all three descriptions in full.
The same body of text separates 隆舶 from 海巡兽. The character 蕾娜 is described as a gold rated 海引, a sea guide who has led 海巡兽 through countless dangerous passages, and 莉莉娅 is a 共生倌 who prefers the company of the creatures that live on the 隆舶 to that of people. A 海巡兽 is therefore something a person pilots through the sea, while a 隆舶 is something people build towns on. The studio's own community posts of August 2026 then define the 海巡兽 outright: humans, who have no 生物脉冲, tamed them as transport on the pure sea, and with their own bio pulse they race through the white sand like the wind. The Thalastrider's 海巡兽 is named 奥璐璐 and can be fitted with armaments. A 海巡兽 is a mount and vehicle; a 隆舶 is a home. No official text says whether the two are related species, and the EP02 test notice's phrase 与巨兽彼此依存 uses the general word for great beasts.
The studio's 海履图鉴 entry on 圣宫 states that every 隆舶 steered by humans is a gift of 圣宫, 每一只为人类所驾驭的隆舶,皆因圣宫恩赐, which is the first hint of where the creatures come from within the fiction. The character 珂林 is described as searching for 隆舶茧, cocoons, to secure a future for his village, which implies the creatures are born or grown rather than simply found. And the 履海知途 system note on the 隆舶家园 says the player has a 隆舶 of their own, which can be built up and repaired to raise its prosperity and take in more residents, and whose bond with residents and companions is deepened by valuing their wishes. See Regions and Factions for the full lore entries and Combat for the system notes.
Two official English channels tell the player to command something called Bio-Cruisers. The official community server description reads "Command your Bio-Cruisers, explore the tides of Thalassa, uncover hidden secrets, and forge your own destiny", and the official video channel description says "you will command a variety of Bio-Cruisers". Both use the same capitalised, hyphenated spelling and the same verb, so the term is real and is player facing.
Beyond those sentences the term is never defined, explained or shown in English. It does have official counterparts in two other languages, which the first version of this page missed. The Chinese and Japanese counterparts are official. The traditional Chinese channel description carries the same sentence as the English one and reads 「身負獨特使命的你,將成為海履者,駕馭形態各異的海巡獸,踏上探尋命運的旅程」, and the Japanese channel description reads 「特別な使命を背負うあなたは、タラストライダーとなり、多種多様なバイオクルーザーを駆使して、運命を探る旅へと踏み出します」. Read side by side with "As a Thalastrider bound by a unique mission, you will command a variety of Bio-Cruisers and embark on a journey to uncover your destiny", the alignment is Bio-Cruisers to 海巡獸 (traditional) and 海巡兽 (simplified), with the Japanese a straight transliteration, バイオクルーザー. 形態各異 and 多種多様 both say the creatures come in many forms, which matches "a variety of".
So Bio-Cruisers is a real, glossed world term rather than a stray English phrase. What remains unstated is its relationship to the Arkiloth. No official source connects 海巡獸 to 隆舶, and the two are written with different characters on the same channels. A world where people ride colossal creatures invites the reading that they are the same thing, but the studio has not made the link and this wiki does not assert it. See Combat for the term in its gameplay context and Titles, Languages and Regional Editions for the glossary row.
The simplified Chinese form 海巡兽 appears in Mainland material from 2025 onward, including the EP02 test announcement of August 2026, whose new promotional video is captioned 「与巨兽彼此依存,和鸣共生」, that is, depending on the great beasts and sounding together in coexistence. That line uses 巨兽 (ancient beasts), not 海巡兽 or 隆舶, so it does not settle the relationship between the three terms either.
As of 21 September 2026, official material has not stated:
The name of any individual Arkiloth, other than the towns and cities that stand on them.
How many exist, or whether each carries one community or many.
Whether they are animals, constructs, or something else.
Whether the player can direct, defend or fight one. Boarding is implied by every settlement on the Mainland site standing on one.
What happens to an Arkiloth that falls behind.
Any confirmed on screen depiction of one. No official video identifies an Arkiloth by name.
