Bringer is the first game made by YHKT, a Chinese studio established in animation production. Day to day development is carried out by 墨界游戏 (simplified Chinese), a subsidiary formed for that purpose, with YHKT credited as the developer at parent level. The game runs on Unreal Engine 5.
The project has been in public development far longer than its international presentation suggests. It was first shown in China on 5 August 2023, was substantially rebuilt in the years that followed, and returned in October 2025 with a new concept presentation and changed in world terminology. The international reveal did not arrive until 13 August 2026. See Announcement History for the dated sequence.
Team and Engine
Detail | Information |
|---|---|
Credited developer | YHKT (艺画开天, simplified Chinese) |
Development team | 墨界游戏, the studio subsidiary that carries out development |
Engine | Unreal Engine 5 |
First game | Yes. Bringer is the studio first title in the games industry |
Status | In development as of 21 September 2026. Second closed test ended 4 September 2026 |
The 2023 debut trailer carried a joint development credit naming both 墨界游戏 and 艺画开天, which is the earliest public statement of how the work is split. The corporate detail behind those names, including the Mainland publishing subsidiary and the studio ownership structure, is covered on the YHKT page.
Stated Direction
The studio describes its aims for the game in its announcement overview: "Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game combines cinematic direction, expressive character performances, and meaningful player agency to deliver storytelling that extends beyond traditional pre-rendered cutscenes." Read plainly, that is a claim about wanting narrative to happen inside playable scenes rather than in cutaways, and it matches the separate statement that "story sequences, exploration stages, and combat encounters are tightly integrated".
No technical detail beyond the engine has been published. There is no stated target frame rate or resolution, no information on ray tracing or upscaling, no world streaming or open world claim, no team size, no budget, and no stated development start date. The studio has published no developer diaries, no devlogs and no technical breakdowns, although its Mainland EP02 promotional video of 6 August 2026 is captioned as recorded in game from an in development build; as of 21 September 2026 each of its four official video channels carries exactly one video, the reveal trailer in that language. The Mainland test client for EP02 was distributed as a Windows installer versioned 0.1.1.168 under the internal name Bringer_CN, and the pre download notice asked testers to reserve more than 100 GB of disk space and recommended an SSD.
The Rebuild Between 2023 and 2025
Chinese coverage of the October 2025 concept presentation treats it as a substantially different project from the one shown in 2023, and coverage of the studio's interviews at the Shanghai expo in July 2026 reports the team saying as much: an early version had reached a certain completeness but fell short of the goal, so it was remade at scale, with the current direction favouring easy to pick up action in service of story and characters. The clearest first party evidence is the game's own vocabulary. The protagonist designation and the form of address used for the player were both replaced:
2023 presentation | 2025 onward | Note |
|---|---|---|
傀人, the protagonist designation | 海履者 | Corresponds to the English Thalastrider |
凡星, how the player was addressed | 海履者 | Reused in 2026 as the category for star rated characters, so not retired |
Not present | 海巡兽 | The Chinese form of Bio-Cruisers, per the parallel official channel descriptions; its relation to 隆舶 is unstated |
All of the terms above are simplified Chinese from Mainland material. The practical consequence is that Chinese material published in 2023 is still in circulation and still describes the game accurately for its own moment, while using words the game no longer uses and possibly describing systems that no longer exist. Treat pre 2025 Chinese material as historical rather than current. The Thalastrider and Titles, Languages and Regional Editions pages carry this in full.
Work in Progress Status
The official concept site carries the notice "Work in Progress. Content shown may not represent the final game." alongside its key art. That disclaimer covers everything the studio has shown, including the reveal trailer and the demo builds played at two public events. Nothing about Bringer is finished, and nothing described anywhere on this wiki should be read as a shipped feature.
Testing has nevertheless reached a fairly advanced stage in Mainland China, with two closed tests run, the second of them from 28 August to 4 September 2026 with story, modes and star rated characters in the build, and a large scale open test mentioned in third party and user posts, though not in any official notice read for this wiki. See Closed Tests and Public Demos for the record and Release and Platforms for why none of that amounts to a launch.
