The messenger's young son is the second major character of Blood Message, travelling with his father across the route to Chang'an.

The Emotional Core

NetEase has framed the father-and-son relationship as the emotional core of the game. The themes of sacrifice, family, and cultural identity live inside that relationship: what the father is willing to give up for the son, what the son is being taught to carry forward, and what survives the journey if either one of them does not.
