11 Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced introduces three new recruitable officers for the Jackdaw. Unlike the original game's crew mechanics, each officer in Resynced is a named character with their own questline. Officers are earned through their stories rather than bought as upgrades, but a questline does not have to be finished end to end: the perk and the officer are unlocked partway through, and the remaining missions are there for players who want the rest of the character's story. Each officer also fills a defined shipboard role: Lucy Baldwin serves as Shipwright, The Padre as Master-at-Arms, and Tobias "Deadman" Smith as Master Gunner.

They are not the whole crew: Adewale serves as quartermaster aboard the Jackdaw through the main story rather than through a recruitment questline, and community guides describe at least one further story character taking an officer post later in the campaign without bringing a naval ability of their own. Only the three below carry the ship perks described on this page.

810 Each officer is tied to a dedicated questline, though it does not have to be finished end to end before they join the Jackdaw. The questlines are built around the concept of earning trust: the officer needs to see that Edward is worth sailing with. The specific tasks and story beats within each questline had not been detailed ahead of the game's release, but the recruitment structure is confirmed to apply to all three. The questlines are woven into the world: Lucy is found imprisoned aboard a Man-o-War and must be freed during a boarding, The Padre is met at Punta del Caracol and convinced to return to a life of piracy, and Tobias is recruited over the course of the new "A World Without Gold" endgame chapter.

1012 Once recruited, each officer brings something distinct to the ship. Tobias "Deadman" Smith’s double broadside shot doubles the cannonballs fired in a single salvo, raising the Jackdaw’s burst damage in naval engagements. Lucy Baldwin’s Perfect Brace, triggered at the right moment, nearly nullifies the damage the Jackdaw takes when an enemy strike connects and halves it on contact, turning a clean brace against a ramming attack into a survivable trade. The Padre’s Ram Dash sends the Jackdaw forward at speed to crack open enemy hulls, opening the kind of weakpoints that follow-up cannon fire can then exploit, and as a Master-at-Arms he also joins boarding parties when the Jackdaw pulls alongside an enemy.

1214 Each officer sits behind a named quest that opens at a set point in the campaign. "A Proper Shipwright" brings in Lucy Baldwin and "A Second Chance" brings in The Padre, and both become available after Sequence 4, "This Old Cove". Tobias "Deadman" Smith comes much later through "No Box Dark Enough", which needs both Sequence 11, "Everything Is Permitted", and the "A World Without Gold" endgame chapter behind it. Finishing Tobias's quest also hands over a multi-shot mortar variant on top of the officer himself.

1416 Because The Padre carries the Ram Dash, recruiting him is now how that charge attack is unlocked. In the original game the equivalent upgrade was the reward for clearing every legendary ship, so in Resynced it lands far earlier in a playthrough and is worth having in hand before those fights.
