1 revisionsThe Nyx Avatar, referred to in-game as A Challenger?, is a boss in Alabaster Dawn. It is a humanoid Nuemera with a long fluttering cape, wielding a sword and shield made of energy.
It is encountered during the timeskip at the end of the demo, where it falls out of the sky and lands just outside Lyhamn. Unlike other Nuemera, it appears intelligent enough to challenge Juno to a duel. After defeat, it flees by curling into a ball and bouncing away, suggesting it returns later as a recurring antagonist.

The Nyx Avatar opens with three basic attacks:
Sword sweep up close. Can be parried for break damage.
Lunge across the arena from a back-step. Parryable for break damage, but the speed makes dodging hard.
Shield energy swing up close. The shield charges with energy, then sweeps in an arc, dealing area damage.
The shield is directional and greatly cuts incoming damage from any angle it covers. Once broken, the shield shatters; the Avatar is stunned and takes increased damage. After the stun ends, the shield does not regenerate, so the Avatar keeps taking bonus damage and cannot use its shield energy attack, but it also cannot be broken a second time in this phase.
At 70% HP the Avatar reaches its first HP break and Juno recovers some HP. Phase 2 opens with a named special attack, Infinity Blade: the Avatar slams its sword into the ground, generating a line of energy across the arena. This move cannot be shielded.
The Avatar then regenerates its shield with a rocky shell and shifts to ranged attacks:
Two small fast spikes shot at Juno.
Sometimes immediately chained into a charged energy orb. The orb seeks Juno and, if it misses, pauses briefly before flying back at her a second time.
The shield energy attack still triggers if Juno gets too close.
The rocky shell is resistant to Piercing and Slashing damage, but very weak to Blunt damage. The Hammer cracks it open quickly. Once the shell is gone, the Avatar combines previous moves: lunge into orb, two sweeps, sweep into a three-spike spread.
At 40% HP the Avatar reaches its second HP break and Juno gets another heal. The Avatar charges up to recover, gaining strong damage and break resistance during the channel. At the end of the channel it regenerates HP and returns to its shieldless Phase 2 attacks.
When dropped to 40% HP a second time, it begins another recovery, but this time Filia interrupts the attack.
With Filia's help, Juno breaks the Avatar during its recovery channel, finally dropping it under 40% HP.
The Avatar performs Infinity Blade twice in quick succession, then regenerates its shield, this time without the rocky shell.
Throughout Phase 3 it chains many combinations of earlier moves: two lunges, two slashes, lunge into orb into another lunge, slash into lunge, slash into a two-spike volley. The shield energy attack still appears.
Once the shield breaks again, behavior matches Phase 1: a brief stun, then increased damage taken with no shield energy attack.
Bring Ortrom Solas or another Blunt option for Phase 2's rocky shell. Skipping the hammer makes the shell phase drag for several minutes.
Save 1 to 2 Healing Bulbs charges for the Phase 3 chain combos. The Avatar's lunge-into-orb sequence punishes any moment Juno is at low HP.
Parry the sword sweep first to learn its timing, then commit parries during lunges. Lunges deal more damage if dodged late, but a clean parry is the highest-value response.
During Infinity Blade, sprint perpendicular to the line; dodging in the same axis as the sword line gets clipped by the trailing energy.
