Weapon Assembly

Initial version (2026-09-15)
Weapon assembly is Crafting and Modification pointed at combat. The studio's phrasing is that anything can be fused, and the weapons it uses to illustrate the game are deliberately absurd: household objects taped together into something that swings. At gamescom 2026 the studio said the game supports more than six hundred weapon combinations, a figure that has not appeared in any of its own posts and should be read as a booth statement rather than an announced specification.
Four combinations have been described by the studio itself rather than proposed by players. They are worth reading as a statement of the rules rather than as a complete list, because no weapon list has ever been published.
Combination | Effect |
|---|---|
Clothes iron duct-taped to a tennis racket | A blunt weapon assembled from two unrelated household objects |
Metal bat bound to a DSLR camera | An electrifying swing that paralyses Zeds |
Zed head attached to a baseball bat | Serves as a weapon and as a tool. See Zombies and Infection |
Harvested limbs from special infected | Used to enhance human weapons. See Special Infected |
Special infected are components as well as enemies. The Parkour Zombie and the Spider Mutant are the two variants the studio has named, and the limbs of both can be harvested to enhance weapons. The most extreme first-party example is not a weapon at all: a Parkour Zombie's legs can be ripped off and attached to the player, who can then outrun a car. Ordinary Zeds are worth stripping too, since most equipment or clothing visible on a zombie can be looted after it is killed.
A crossbow existed in the first tech test. Testers complained that each arrow cost a plank, which made ammunition expensive and turned levelling through arrow crafting into a grind, and the studio promised to optimise the recipe. Bows are confirmed for the game, with no build named. Swords were confirmed absent as of 16 November 2025 and no statement has changed that. Firearms exist in the world at least in enemy hands, because gun-wielding zombies are among the infected the studio has confirmed.
The player-facing firearm system is announced rather than shipped. In January 2026 the studio described a modular weapon system in prototype, where accessories change a weapon's tactical role and improvised modifications are possible, including what it called logical do-it-yourself mods such as using a plastic water bottle as a silencer. It was slated for the following test build. The July 2026 roadmap lists more weapon assembly among the systems being refined, so the work is continuing.
Weapon skill levels are meant to matter more than they did. After the first test, players argued that a weapon skill should shape draw speed, accuracy, melee speed and weapon durability. The studio agreed completely and said the skill system was being rebuilt so that beginners and veterans feel different; Skills and Progression covers what is confirmed about that rebuild. Durability is a live concern elsewhere in the game too, since instruments lose durability while played and are due to be optimised.
Item | Status |
|---|---|
Object fusion with the four named combinations | In the game |
Limb harvesting from special infected | In the game |
Crossbow | Present in the first tech test; arrow cost flagged for recipe optimisation |
Bows | Confirmed for the game, no build date given |
Swords | Confirmed absent as of 16 November 2025 |
Modular firearms and the water bottle suppressor | Announced January 2026, described as a prototype |
More weapon assembly | Named on the July 2026 roadmap as a refinement target |
Six hundred or more weapon combinations | Stated by the studio at gamescom 2026 and not repeated in its own posts |
No damage figure, durability value or crafting cost for any weapon has ever been published, and requests that circulate as though they were features, prosthetic and cybernetic limbs among them, are player suggestions the studio received with interest rather than announced systems. Combat covers how these weapons are used.
